It's strange isn’t it how it’s always the same few people on here and the Broadway Board who always go in to bitchy rants at someone’s opinion who they don't agree with.
SADM, I honestly have no issue with you despite the fact that we disagree often, but it must be said that you are so in that same bandwagon. You're form of bitchy may be different but you are just as obstinate (if not more so) then anyone else.
And surely you realize that a comment like the one I quoted above is just a passive/aggressive way of putting others down.

I have to agree with Taz. I'm just about indifferent to both Madonna and Gaga, so I have no problem with anyone's opinion on the subject.
But you're not just expressing your opinion, i.e., you prefer one to artist to the other. You actually keep stating things as fact, and those "facts" don't exactly hold up--because they're actually opinions disguised as objective statements.
And yes, you come off as fairly aggressive, whether that's your intention or not.

Well Taz i was not talking about you, but i apologise if i come off aggressive at all (though apart from saying some was being bitchy I’m not sure where).
I know we disagree often Taz but i never see you as being OTT with your remarks etc, i normally just answer you or you answer me, unlike others on here who push and push and push and when they realize I’m not the kind of person who backs down from my own opinion and then they just go straight to bitchy, sarcasm, insulting, putting down.....it does not really bother me (I’m 30 not 16, i have far more important things to focus on), i just find it strange that some of the more 'mature' members of the board seem to be the worst.
Reginald Tresilian i have put MULTIPLE times in this thread that the things im saying are MY OPINION, not fact, all i see is fact is that her song sounds very similar to Express Yourself, you can't get away from that, everything else is what i think, my own opinion and ive stated that. It's based things ive read, things ive spoke about with LGBT people i work with etc, so i formed an opinion.
As for facts i think if you look at other peoples comments on here you will find that their's are more fact heavy (or what they percieve as fact)

Just to clarify, I wasn't saying you were aggressive (you're not),
I was saying that your last comment was passive/aggressive
which is a whole different thing.
But this is one of those times where I don't think anyone's mind is going to changed by the discussion.
I understand your point but don't agree that Gaga is exploiting a pro-gay message for her own success. I think she is who she is, and as quirky as that may be it is undeniably genuine and sincere.
And I also think that all the good works Madonna did are commendable.
I appreciate them both.

"It's based things ive read"
So far, the 'bullies' you're talking about have been posting links to articles and video clips that directly contradict your spurious contention. I'd be very interested to see some evidence of something that could justifiably lead you (or anyone else) to the conclusion that she is 'using' her gay fan base.
I don't think the "Express Yourself" comparison is up for debate - she, herself, seems to have made it clear (at least to me) that it was indeed an homage - intentionally so.

Madonna, at least, is apparently not bothered by the similarity of the songs:
"There’s no song-thief beef between Madge and the Lady. 'There is really no one that is a more adoring and loving Madonna fan than me,' Gaga tells Jay Leno on tonight’s show. 'I am the hugest fan personally and professionally.”
“'The good news is that I got an e-mail from her people and her,' she says, 'sending me their love and complete support on behalf of the single, and if the queen says it shall be, then it shall be.'”

i know for people like Namo it KILLS him on here when people don't agree with him
Not only does it not kill me, it doesn't wound me, it doesn't bruise me, it doesn't even graze me.
I didn't spend any time tearing you down, I spent time tearing down your argument by pointing out the lack of logic and inconsistencies in what you're willing to overlook in another artist whose transgressions you forgive open-endedly.
However, Q, Reg and Taz have laid it out for you in their responses to your assertion and I would say, as ya'll say in Great Britain, they were "spot on."

It looks like Born This Way is likely to debut at No. 1 on the new Billboard Hot 100, to be unveiled tomorrow. If the initial numbers hold up, Lady G will break the record for most downloads sold in a week by a female artist, with more than 450,000 sold. This is particularly amazing considering that the track was only available for 3 days in the tracking period (Fri - Sun).

At this point, Madonna probably owes Gaga - she hasn't had this kind of positive buzz in quite awhile.

Whether or not she is using the gay platform......that's her deal. I like the woman, but I am SO tired of hearing about her 20 times a day on facebook, twitter, here, on the radio, at work, etc. It's getting to the point now where I don't even want to listen to her music anymore because of the overexposure.
Also.....I love how the same fans that bash people for dressing like her (even if it's a pair of sunglasses that people wore 20 years ago) are doing the, "it's not copying....it's an homage." You can't have it both way people. Either fess up or shut up. <---And that's not directed to anyone here, but just in general.

Born This Way is actually my favorite Gaga song I've heard thus far. Probably because Express Yourself has always been my favorite Madonna song. But whether or not Gaga admits it's an homage is just nit-picking. As has been stated before, we could spend the rest of our lives pointing out how one dance song sounds like another. Madonna sampled ABBA for Hung Up, for God's sake. She also covered other artists. So trying to compare Gaga to Madonna in terms of originality is nothing more than desperate pot-stirring.
As for the gay issue, I just don't see any valid reason for complaints. Whatever her motives, I haven't seen any evidence of harm. If she waited to establish herself as a star in order to cultivate a diverse group of fans to see how loyalty would play out in order to release more politically overt material, I just think that makes her smart. Otherwise, had Born This Way been released on The Fame, it is possible it could have had more limited sales and thus been another "preaching to the choir" gay anthem. Gaga astutely gave herself room to flex and grow and I hope she does a better job than Madonna did with Erotica and American Life.
While I haven't been a Gaga "fan", she is starting to grow on me. I'm not really into the showmanship and theatrics, but I'm starting to dig some of the songs.

Have you listened to Erotica lately Matt? In retrospect it's one of my favorite Madonna albums. And if I was posting in the 'won't someone think of the stoners' thread I would say the same thing about American Life.

I did listen to Erotica a few months ago and it still makes me sleepy. It has a couple of tracks I can isolate and enjoy, but as an album, I find it rather dull. And though I've tried countless times, there is absolutely nothing on American Life I like. That CD is a coaster.

I think a lot has to be said for an artist's earning the power to be edgier. Hollywood execs want it played safe. In every way, GaGa slowly gained her power to do exactly what she wants--the same was true of Madonna.
I loved all of Madonna's albums (though not every song) because I have always been willing to go on whatever ride she takes me. To allow her to be an artist, expressing herself (pun not intended) how she feels. I am prepared to do the same with GaGa. As long as I enjoy the music, she can be want she wants to be as far as I am concerned. Hell, I wish Madonna would make more albums like American Life/Ray of Light over the recent stuff. If I want her dance music, I'll buy the remixes.

Okay. That was the sweetest thing, like, ever.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
