Oh Namo, Gaga wasn't present vocally when she recorded the new album, David Bowie was.
Only on "Applause", my friend :)

It's not only on Applause, from the top of my head she does the same on the versus of Aura as well. The woman is a great vocalist, Bettyboy is right, Madonna ain't the best vocalist and she knows it so she packages herself as an entertainer (something she does better than anyone) but Gaga had this stunning vocal she really should put front and centre.
I agree Gaga can't sell arenas and stadiums (as the last tour showed), downscaling and putting the focus on her voice would be much appreciated by the fans I'm sure.
On "Aura"?? She sounds absolutely bat**** on that track, but I don't hear DB at all. "Applause" has that clipped, affected delivery with the deliberate vibrato. on "Aura", she sounds like the Wicked Witch after having smoked a joint. The chorus is heavenly though, in my opinion. Wait.
"she packages herself as an entertainer (something she does better than anyone)"
You're saying she's an entertainer who entertains better than anyone else who calls themselves an entertainer?

I actually hear BOWIE on "FASHION"
Resisted wading into this pool for a bit but it's an interesting conversation, one I've been having IRL the last week or so.
What I like about LG is that she is an amalgamation of so many other artists.
In my mind her whole product/branding is that she is a "concept" artist, a blending if you will, of the most successful components of a previous generation of artists. On paper i think she makes complete sense a a product. Her outlandish "schtick" is what defines her (for better or worse) and I think people will look back 15 or 20 years from now and say she personifies a lot of the best/worst parts of this era.
As an artist myself, I'm all for a little meta now and then but I think with ARTPOP, there's more conversation about what's there than actual "there".... there. I love Dali, am curious about Koons and dig a little irony every once and a while, but I think she may have thrown way too much into the batter on this album. The only thing cohesive about it is how fragmented it is.
On the issue of comparisons--- is she M, is she Bowie is she ....? What I find most interesting is how people focus exclusively on Madonna and almost never mention Grace Jones (whom she has almost copied sequin for sequin in some cases) .
I actually hear BOWIE on "FASHION"
yes, the observation is spot-on!
I love how "fragmented", or varied, the album is. There's many different influences going on (funk, disco, R&B, house, metal, etc) while still being fundamentally rooted in contemporary EDM. And I really don't like "Jewels n' Drugs", but I give her tons of credit for even trying her hand at trap.

Well, I mean, he had a hit single with "Fashion."
That's like saying you hear The Association in Madonna's "Cherish".
Speaking of David Bowie, how do you feel about him re-releasing The Next Day super-special edition with extra tracks? I was surprised. I hate when they do that, though of course I'm grateful for the material.
Sorry Namo I meant entertainer in the music industry, and yes she does it better than anyone.
Yes I hear the Bowie sound on Fashion as well, more importantly though the song is terrible
Hardly terrible. It has grown on me a bit in the past weeks, but it is still a weaker moment on the album. Updated On: 11/21/13 at 03:02 PM
Fashion is a skip. Gypsy has grown on me tremendously.
Awesome! It's been "Gypsy", "Sex Dreams" and "GUY" all day over here.

Going back to Funplex, I also thought it was a great cd. The last two times seeing B32's, they did quite a bit (about 7 songs) from it.
Last time I saw the B-52s they opened with a hit, went into some Funplex songs, did a hit, more Funplex and closed with the BIG HITS. It was great to hear about 7 songs from Funplex.
On ARTPOP, I skip that awful rap song. WTF is that?

I totally agree And it's old school rap with Too Short and Twista. The song she does with R Kelly, she sounds like Christina Aguilera. But I like it.
^ I just can't listen to R Kelly. He makes my skin crawl.
Second week in the US looks set to see the album fall to number 7 and sell around 50k
An interesting article about ArtPop
"ArtPop" is Gaga's "Erotica"

I love Erotica. I can never decide if that or Like a Prayer is my favorite Madonna album.
For all the crap she took for that album it honestly holds up (from start to finish) as one of her absolute best.
Now I'll be listening to Erotica all day. So that's a good thing.
As far as the MDNA tour...I remember getting an email with a code after I purchased my ticket for the show. That came automatically...I didn't have to do anything special to request the code.
So if the album sales don't jive with the amount of tickets sold that means some people chose not to redeem their free copy of the album. Which kind of speaks to my point about people being more interested in her tours than her new music.
Chartflop!

This article is also spot on- if we were to put these careers side to side.
Rolling Stone's review of 'Like A Prayer'-
Like a Prayer was a great album, and critics were eager to praise it. They found it ambitious, poignantly written, and creatively performed. In fact, Rolling Stone bestowed upon it the label that Gaga so desperately wants: "it's as close to art as pop music gets. Like a Prayer is proof not only that Madonna should be taken seriously as an artist but that hers is one of the most compelling voices of the Eighties."
So while Gaga scales up on Artpop, throwing herself into every different current music fad from trap to EDM, Madonna scaled back on Like A Prayer. She didn't achieve art by declaring her work to be art: she just wrote from a personal place. Of course, I'm not saying that Gaga needs to replicate Like A Prayer — she shouldn't. But what she needs to do is surprise us and challenge our idea of who she is and can be. So ironically, it's only by understanding Madonna's transformation and growth that Lady Gaga can be more than a Material Girl imitator.

Let's be real for a second, Gaga's 'flop' album is selling just as much as every other pop artist's best selling albums. What does that say about her, huh?
