Yeah, I understand the feeling you meant to present.
As for me, I think this is the OPPOSITE of the world moving in the right direction.
yay! *runs off to spread news to the world!* lol...
Adam, you are not wrong. But I've heard so many people (including Gay/Lesbian people) make statements predicated on the idea that G/L couples "can't have kids"--but we can adopt, we can do in-vitro, we can organize non-traditional families living under one roof (some gays, some lesbians, some kids, some cats, etc.).
The point is, being gay/lesbian doesn't make you sterile--it just makes you cool.

This is such wonderful news!! I am so incredibly proud to live in a state that is not discriminatory towards homosexuals. * runs of to spread the word* This brightened up a bad day and an even worse week, for sure!
O and one day at...oh 3 am, when I couldnt sleep because my mind was burdened, I woke up and, applying all those human phisiology skills from bio last year, I planned a way in which homsexualls can have a child from their own DNA, involving a surrogate mother or donor. Then I listed ethical ramifications and all precident I knew of...gosh, my life is...unique

I don't think I've ever been more proud of being a New Yorker. This is such FANTASTIC news! Ohmygod, I have to go tell everyone!
As they say in "Purlie"...
"the world is comin' to a start!"
careful with Adamaddict, folks. She has made it clear that she is anti gay marriage in another thread. It must have been agonizing seeing Adam Pascal in that musical with the faggots.
I thought I was the only one confused by these contradicting posts. How can you be "joining the celebration" while thinking this is a step in the wrong direction??
Exactly. And her posts about too bad gays can't have kids. Such BS.
There is NO inherent reason why gays and lesbians shouldn't be allowed to be married. NONE.
Frankly, I feel worse for the kid borne from Britney Spears and Kevin Federline than I do for the kid of a couple of loving and devoted 'mos, but I suppose that's just crazy talk.
Don't let the homophobes get you down. You guys are most certainly moving in the right direction!

The whole point of being gay is....I DON'T WANNA GET MARRIED!
If I wanted to get married I'd marry a girl?
Franco
HOLY COW!! I didn't hear about this until this morning. I almost choked on my mini-wheats when I read it in the paper. I'm visiting my parents in Delaware and it made the papers here.
So glad I live in a progressive state like NY, even though I'm stuck in a very conservative part of the state.
I'm not so glad I live in a non-progressive state like Virginia.
Well first, YAY! That is amazingly exciting news and I'm as happy as a straight girl who's under marrying age can get. This news renewed my faith in at least some parts of this country.
Second, not sure where to post this so be patient. Virginia is trying to pass a law that will ban GSA's from schools because they "promote sexual behavior". Of course, everyone can see through this clearly shoddy excuse, including my school GSA where my best friend Allison (the G in GSA) and I (the S) have been getting petitions signed. I don't think it will be passed, since it's just so far fetched, but encouraging thoughts/ angry letters are welcome!
oh, lovette--bless your heart!! That IS absurd. Homophobes only see the sex. It's all about sex to them. That's all they can think about. Who are the pervs then?
Wait. Franco, you're gay because you don't want to get married?
Uh, you sure it doesn't have to do with that bizarre attraction you feel for members of your own sex?
The most important thing about this ruling is not that you have to get married, just that you can if you wish.
Oh, yeah, and adamaddict: don't poop the party, dear. The gays are happy right now but you don't want to turn us on you.
My biggest worry is that this will give our worthless president and the religous wrong more incentive to push through the anti gay marriage ammendment.
It's very pathetic that Bush will now push public attention to stopping gay marriages, while at the same time cutting major social programs, such as aid to college students, to make up some of the money he wasted on his useless war that has nearly bankrupted the US.
Whoo-hoo! This is awesome. Champagne and sexy dancers for everyone!
the awful thing about adamaddict's comment is that it slams ALL families with adoptive children...straight, gay, the parents and the children as if to say the love shared between adoptees and their parents will always be less than the love shared by parents who give their "genes" to their kids. that's twisted. Bingo, bongo! :)
That kind of attitude is so holier than thou and nasty. Not very Christ-like at all I'd say.

Oh, please - adamaddict is by her own admission in the tenth grade. And you're getting your panties in a bunch over her opinion because . . .?

That's why god made duct tape.
Well Fox News.com sure is covering this whereas CNN.com and MSNBC.com are not. Guess Fox wants to help fuel the fire.

Anyway, I pray that Bloomberg's intentions are genuine and that this will win.

Let them fan the flames JRB - the issue at core here really isn't 'gay marriage'. The issue in our society is the final confrontation between secularists and religious fundamentalists - and anything to do with gays is only grist for the mill.
Some facts about interracial marriage:
from http://marriage.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.csmonitor.com%2Fdurable%2F2001%2F07%2F25%2Fp15s1.htm
"In 1967, the Supreme Court ruled in Loving v. Virginia that a ban on interracial marriage was unconstitutional."
Interracial marriage was made legal by a court case. You could say "activist" judges made this decision.
Number of interracial marriages in 1960: 51,000
Number of interracial marriages in 2001: 450,000
1991 survey by National Opinion Research Center: 66 percent of white Americans polled opposed a close relative marrying a black man.
More recent survey by The Washington Post, the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, and Harvard University found 86 percent of black respondents said their families would welcome a white person. But only 55 percent of white families would respond in kind.
And all of the same things said in support of banning gay marriage were said of interracial marriage:
