So if the strike happens, I won't even be able to take a cab to Queens? Absolutely ****ing wonderful.
This morning, I missed a train because everyone who was trying to get through the turnstyle (including myself) kept getting the "Please Swipe Again" message. The stupid bitch in the toll both got on her power-mic and said, "The machines are cold...keep trying."
I wanted to be like, "Bitch, I'M COLD! F*CK THE MACHINE...GET YOUR LITTLE SPACE HEATER OR YOUR TWO FAT ASS CHEEKS OUT HERE AND WARM THE F*CKER UP!"
Goddess help them if this crap happens...you think the riots in France and Australia are bad? Wait until 8 million New Yorkers can't get to goddamn work or go shopping. The East River will run red, baby.
A few weeks ago when I was in the city, the station was practically empty, because it was late at night. I bought a single ride card and went to go through the turnstile and I got the same error message. The guy watched me for 5 minutes before I finally went over and said explained that I had just bought it and it wasn't working. He rolled his eyes and sighed, then reached over to push the button to left me through like it was the most exhausting thing he had done all day. He didn't even have to get up out of his freakin' chair, but apparently, it was too much to handle.
*crochets turnstile warmers for Robbiej*
I always breathe on my MetroCard before I swipe it when it's really cold out...seems to help.
That's actually quite a good little piece of advice.
Do you think slapping and MTA worker silly would provide the same affect?
That would definetly warm up your hands robbie...then you can rub your hands on the card.
I find that slapping one of those lazy overpaid C U Next Tuesdays across the face *always* helps....helps me feel better, anyway.
I think that if you slap the MTA worker silly, you won't have to worry about your Metrocard because your fellow commuters will be lining up to reward you by swiping you in on their card.
Did you just see the press conference from MTA? It was all of thirty seconds long and they were just asking the TWU to not strike. Wow, thanks MTA. You suck. I hate the MTA and the TWU. It's their issue yet evryone else in the city has to pay for it.
I really want to be viciously angry right now, but your avatar just keeps making me all warm and squishy inside, Shermy...and hot and hard on the outside.
*shakes head vigorously* There we go. all better...Let's get some bricks and beat the crap out of these bastards.
oh my...jailyard!!
The TWU just had there press conference and basically they were just arguing with the MTA in public. Quit wasting our time (and cutting into Who Wants to be a Millionaire) and get back into the talks, losers! And how funny that the whole time he talked his microphone was all screwy. I know where I'd like to put that mic, Mr. Spokesperson!
MTA starting salary for a driver is $48,000. That's with a high school diploma and paid on-the-job training.
Average salaries:
bus driver: $65k
subway conductor: $54k
station agent: $51k
subway cleaner: $40k
And they want retirement pensions to kick in at 50?
%#$%$%$%$# YOU MTA MOTHER%$#%$%#$!!!
oh yeah...some bitches gon' git beat.
Well I would never begrudge people making wages or healthy ones at that - especially for jobs I would never want to do. But.. not at the expense of crippling an entire city.
what are they striking for anyway? more money I guess? are they mad that the MTA had extra money and instead of giving it to them they gave it to bonus metro cards?

This happens because they don't clean the electronic readers enough.
Silver lining:
Perhaps those other few applicants who are going for the same job as me won't be able to get to their interview on time now. Sabotage! Sabotage!
this negotation point is ludicrous... especially given their lack of customer service as indicated on this thread
"The union later indicated that it would accept smaller raises if the authority agreed to decrease disciplinary actions against workers, the Times reported. It didn't say how much it would be willing to cut its demand, the newspaper said. "
The catharsis on this thread is a very happy thing.
I would like to add:
1. C U Next Tuesdays who don't KEEP TO THE RIGHT
2. A Holes who use their cell phone on walkie talkie mode--the beeping and the muffled caller. I just want to SCREAM.
3. Dumb ***es who played cell phone games like Bejeweled with volume.
i would SO be michael douglas in falling down if i had to commute into the city for a week straight.
The fun has started
Coming home on the # 7, someone ( wonder who) on the train in front of us pulled the emergency cord. I than got to 74 th St . 3 E trains in a row & express trains running local & vice versa
There was a great cartoon in the Post today King Kong ( labeled the Transit Union ) is holding a screaming woman (the commuters)in his paw. Naturally this will be made a racial thing. A cartoon in the News had TWU president Toussant dressed as Santa dumping coal in a chimney saying "Merry ******* Christmas New York)
I made photocopies & left them all over. I remember last time this farce occured & Toussant gave us his word he would fight to keep the fare from going up. He got his contract & like Superman was Up Up & Away

Toussant is extremely unprofessional. The other night he ripped up the injunction on tv. Also the other night (and also the threat a few years ago) he made nasty remarks about Bloomberg. Then the woman who is president of the teachers union gets up and says, "I think all schools should be closed because some children will be learning while others aren't."
Basically what the two of them are teaching children is: instead of intellectual discourse with your opponent, just scream and cause trouble until you get what you want.
Well, it worked for Republicans!
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
