So I was just browsing on imdb.com, and I was quite upset to see that Rob Zombie is set to direct a remake of the original, classic Halloween. Why, oh why would they even touch such a wonderful film? John Carpenter and Debra Hill certainly got it right the first time around. Rob Zombie will wreck it and turn it into a piece of overly-violent trash.
Any thoughts?
It's really upsetting. I hear it's a re-envisioning though so I guess it's at least a pat on the back. The original is fantastic though.
I wonder what's keeping them from remaking Citizen Kane and The Wizard of Oz?

We don't need a remake. The original is a great horror film and does not need to be reimagined. Is he going to have Paris Hilton star? OY!
They have remade THE WIZARD OF OZ (which was already a remake). I don't think CITIZEN KANE is commercial enough for a remake. It wasn't even commercial enough for an original! And, didn't we already discuss this remake? The only thing you can't improve in the original HALLOWEEN (a film I love, by the way), is the music.
I think Rob Zombie's 'The Devil's Rejects' proves he's a horror director with a lot of upside. That being said, I don't think there's much of a way remaking an absolute classic will benefit his career. The naysayers will always win out in the end. I'd rather he stuck to doing his own things.
Frankly, I despised everything about THE DEVIL'S REJECTS.

Lots of people reacted to it that way. I found it to be a clever love letter to the exploitation movement of the 70's.
Not sure how I feel about this yet, but Rob Zombie doesn't strike me as someone who would cast someone like Paris Hilton in something.
Let me just put it this way: If the studios can give us crap week after week, I think that Rob Zombie - a talented director who can definitely give this series the energy and tension that it needs - should be allowed to attempt a "reimagining" of Halloween. Zombie has a lot of admiration and respect for the horror genre, and I don't think he would screw this up.
JohnBoy2--Yes, we discussed in a few months ago, when I posted a thread about it.
I don't like it at all, but what can you do? Rob Zombie said that it is not a "remake," but kind of a prequel that runs into the original movie . . . so he is calling it a "re-imagining." He did say that the original music was going to stay intact, since it is such a staple with the films.
WHY ??????????????????????????????????
Because Hollywood is money hungry.
uh, why? (remake I mean)
They are also remaking "Friday the 13th" too. It is set to be directed by the same guy that did "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning" and will have Jason in it with his hockey mask.
Um . . . did they even watch the original? It is not about Jason it is his mom. And the hockey mask does not show up until the 3rd movie.
This all makes me sick.

I've heard nothing about a remake of Friday the 13th, but I do know that there is a sequel in the works. According to imdb.com, Joel Schumacher is attached as the director. However, the project seems to be on hold.

Hey, Hollywood! Come up with an original idea, why don'tcha???
PJ--I read it on Yahoo! News a few months ago. I haven't heard anything else about it though.
Unless this is a musical and it's on ice... I'm not interested.
And PJ--So, Joel Schumacher, after his FABULOUS turn at the helm of Phantom of the Opera, is going to direct... the latest Friday the 13th sequel (what is it, number 15)?
Justice is served.
Okay, actually... when this man isn't allowed anywhere near a DGA contract, then justice will be served.
Here is a quote I got from the official "Friday the 13th" website.
Some news on the upcoming Friday the 13th movie, as reported at Fangoria.com: "In a recent chat with Jonathan Liebesman, who helmed the upcoming TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING for Platinum Dunes and New Line, Fango has learned the future FRIDAY director is heading back to the studio in the coming days to pitch his take on a film that is geared to reignite and overhaul the franchise." At least some progress is being made! Let's hope for 2007.
I found it to be a clever love letter to the exploitation movement of the 70's.
So did I. That's why I think he's perfect for the job: He doesn't pull punches.
But the great thing about "Halloween" vs. Jason and Freddy . . . . is that the original was about the suspense, not the gore. And I am afraid Rob Zombie is going to make it nothing but gore.
I understand where you're coming from, but I don't think Zombie - a man who appreciates the genre as an art form - would allow that to happen.
Hey, Hollywood! Come up with an original idea, why don'tcha???
Right! If Hollywood doesn't come up with something original, how will Broadway know what to turn into a musical?

Howard Stern was planning to re-make PORKY'S - now that's sacrilege!
