Some of the wonderfully talented ladies of the past who celebrated their birthdays in October. They're gone - but their contributions to the entertainment world will make them live forever in our hearts and our memories:
Beautiful photos, Mamie.
I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a picture of Irene Ryan out of her Granny drag, and Dale Evans as a pin-up girl? I had no idea!
And how gorgeous was Jean Arthur?
Thank you.
(Dale was trying to snag herself a good looking cowboy. I think it worked.)

I live for these!
Talk about some theatrical heavy hitters - Helen Hayes AND Sarah Bernhardt?!?
But my heart, mind and soul belong eternally to the Mighty Mahalia - heaven's choir is the only suitable backing for her righteous thunder.
Thank you, Mamie - this is a wonderful thing you do.
Thank you DG. As always - it's my pleasure.
They are gorgeous!
Mamie, you take the cake.
Passing Angels is the best of BWW.
Brava!
It's incredible how much talent one month could produce!
Thank you all for your kind words.
Now I have a request for you. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I would appreciate it so much if everyone who comes here would take an extra second to go to this website and click on the pink ribbon. The sponsors of this site are funding mammograms for those who can't afford them on their own. It won't cost you a penny - just a click. For life!
The Breast Cancer Site
Done.
This thread should not be on page 2.
Sorry for bumping my own thread, but these ladies deserve better than a slide down to the 3rd page on the second day of the month.
What a beautiful picture of Fanny Brice! This is easily one of the highlights of my month.
You did a gorgeous job, yet again
Sorry Mamie.
You are correct, this thread deserves more than page 3.
Thanks again. Your "Passing Angels" threads are the best of BWW.
We need beauty tonight.
I was away when you posted this month's Mamie, so thanks to Glebb for bumping it.
Spring Byington! Carrie Snodgress! And my love--Miriam Hopkins!
And where in HELL did you find a bombshell pic of Dale Evans?!?!?!?
I LOVE the picture of Dale Evans.

Once again, a great collection of women. I'm happy that you included the wonderful Georgia Brown and the down to earth Sarah Cannon (aka Minnie Pearl).
Thank you all so much.
Dale Evans had an interesting and rather tumultuous life. She was initially named Lucille Wood Smith but her parents renamed her Frances Octavia when she was just a baby. Over her life she changed her name 4 or 5 times before settling on Dale Evans. In addition to this, she left home and married, for the first of 4 times, at the age of 14. She also had a child at that age but, times being what they were, her son was always passed off as a younger brother. It was with the support of her 4th husband that the boy was finally identified in public as her son.
She was a big band singer for a while and then became a 'B' movie star, appearing in films like "Orchestra Wives" and "Girl Trouble". It wasn't until Republic pictures offered her a contract to appear in their films that she made her first western. While working for that studio she was given the lead in "The Cowboy and the Senorita" and it was there that she met 4th and final husband, Roy Rogers.
I think that Diana Dors picture is actually Jean Simmons.
I'm loving the Spring Byington mention as well! Never gave a less than stellar performance. Lovely photos and so many memories!
Thanks Mamie!
Yee gods! How did THAT happen? In an effort to get a young (translate - NOT blond bombshell) photo of Ms. Dors, I managed to get Ms Simmons instead. My apologies to both ladies.
As always Mamie...GORGEOUS !!! You are perfection with these threads. All I can say is...what EYES most of these angels have..absolutely BEAUTIFUL !!!
I'm just now seeing this too!
Thanks, Mamie.
I love these threads, and it's amazing to see who are my fellow Librans (mostly of them are, anyway :)
Thank you, Mamie!
Bumping the October gorgeousness.
Such dignified, beautiful Ladies!
