So, yeah. As some of you might know, I have posted rather prolifically about my ex-boyfriend in the past. Although we are no longer together romantically, he remains one of my closest friends and probably the person I care about most outside of my family. Even though I do want to punch him in his face half the time.
A few weeks ago, Brian had an operation to remove his gall bladder. He's had a long history of chronic pain and kidney problems (he's had 7 kidney stones in the past 3 years that I've known him), and we were all hopeful that the removal of his gall bladder would elleviate some of his pain. Since the surgery, Brian has been in and out of the hospital for dehabilitating pain that practically paralyzed the right side of his body. Finally, the doctors discovered yesterday that he is suffering from a bile leak, possibly as a result of the gall bladder removal. He's undergoing surgery to repair the leak this afternoon.
I went and saw Brian at the hospital yesterday and it was probably one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. I have never seen someone in that much pain. So please, if you believe in that sort of thing, say some prayers today. Not just for Brian, but for his family and all of his friends. Hopefully today's surgery will be successful and he'll be able to return to being the funny, talented, and endlessly infuriating person that we have all come to know and love.
Sorry if this is long and rambling and also sorry if it is deemed "banal." I just know that this board helped me a lot with the death of my dog this summer and I know that there are some truly caring people that frequent BWW. I guess I just need all the good vibes I can get today.
My thoughts are with Brian, his family, and you. Hoping for an easy and speedy recovery!
So sorry to hear that Kitz. Sending good thoughts and prayers for all of you.

My thoughts are with you.
And Kitz, although you are no longer together, I think it's wonderful you remain such good friends and you care for him so much. It shows a lot of maturity.
Good thoughts Kitz - plenty of good thoughts.

Oh, Kitzy, that's awful. Sending good thoughts...
While I decided long ago that some mistake had to have been made in my blessings vs. good deeds department, my grandmother had to have a stock pile of blessings coming. Brian is on her prayer list. Mine, too, but I don't know how much that counts for. She has a direct line, I think.
He has my prayers, Kitz. Both for a speedy recovery AND that he has (or gets) a doctor who isn't afraid to treat THE PAIN. It's been proven that the relief of pain can speed recovery and that the body's ability to use pain relievers efficiently (ie without ever succombing to addiction) has long been underestimated. Despite this, many doctors are still afraid to treat pain lest their patients become addicted. I hope and pray that he finds a modern thinking doctor who knows better.
