And though Tim didn't claim full responsibility, he did mention that he pushed Justin to go further and really go for it. I'd honestly rather see this "save" used like this again (if it remains a permanent feature) to keep somebody during the middle portion who does indeed just need a chance to show what they can do. We've seen in numerous seasons how the producers will find ways to keep their top contenders in even when they make a serious misstep later on in the competition. We've seen time and time again where a designer's previous works keep them in, or, as in just last season, where the producers pull a "one shot at redemption" like they did with Michelle.
I also think Alexandria won last night not because her outfit was that incredible (I like the silhouette, but I thought there were some fit issues that would have been solved by just using a sturdier denim), but because the judges do tend to avoid rewarding gowns. They also have a long history of heaping praise on anyone who can pull off separates, especially when they are the only ones who do it.
I also think there were a lot of very weak looks this week, which probably made picking the bottom three very hard. Kate's dress made her model look like a nine-month pregnant dominatrix (with that patent leather halter thing going on top), Helen's looked once again unfinished (I've grown tired of her fraying the edges of everything, which I think she does to cover her lack of sewing ability and/or time management), and Dom's was very reminiscent of what she did with the bow-tie challenge, so essentially a repeat of what we've already seen.
