I'm not totally caught up--just finished watching the Luna Park challenge. I thought the sombrero dress was GORGEOUS. The monster dress was adorable (and the styling was excellent) but I agreed with sombrero for the win.

javero: Season two of PR was, for my money, the BEST EVER! Loved the musical medleys ("Andre...what happened to Andre?"), the drama, the personalities and the wonderful challenges (Barbie, which Nick Verreos rocked, the figure skating costume, flower district, socialite dress). I hated Chloe Dao's collection, and personally found it to be inferior to both Daniel (who should have won) and Santino's final work. I despised Wendy Pepper. I don't care that she was a villain...her clothing was hideous. I laughed when that guy drew a moustache on her kid's picture.

So many wonderful designers to come out of this competition. Christian Siriano, Austin Scarlett, Laura Bennett, Kara Saun, etc.

I remember thinking Daniel V's orchid dress was the best dress ever on PR. Also, Chris March's gorgeous blue face dress left an impression.

I also think of Austin Scarlett's corn husk dress every time they mention grocery stores or unconventional challenge.

Speaking of, do we need 3 unconventional challenges in 5 episodes?

And give the award to Braden all ready. Nuff said.

The Tom and Lorenzo blog suspects that this season might have been intended to be ENTIRELY unconventional materials challenges, but the producers got cold feet and started to mix it up with the 2 make-a-pretty-dress challenges instead. I'm betting we will have to endure still more UM episodes before this season's done and Brandon is (deservedly) crowned the winner.

Oh and did anyone else feel that Alexandria was acting and sounding exactly like a seriously abused wife in this episode? She seemed genuinely terrified throughout the entire hour and a half.

Can't wait till all the chaff is gone and we can start sorting the wheat.

Hell to the no to more unconventional materials challenges AND team challenges. The last team challenge saved Miranda to get eliminated another day.

I actually love all the unconventional challenges. It pushes the designers to think outside the box which they mostly do not do in regular challenges. However, at a certain point, perhaps by the top 6, it should definitely be all fabric

I like that they now show the judges looking "up close" at the designers creations. Have a feeling they did that anyway in prior seasons, and it was edited out.

Also, when they say "thank you Mood!" I still chuckle, because "Mood" should be thanking THEM!

From what both Nick and Mila have stated on their blogs on the Lifetime website the up close examinations are indeed new to this season. They both mentioned how there were a lot of designers in both their seasons who would have gone home a lot earlier if the judges saw just how much hot glue and super quick fixes that were going into what went down the runway.

So far I haven't really disagreed with any of the decisions on who has been in the bottom and who was ultimately sent home. There are definitely times where I would have made a different decision (Sandro's first garment that had the first ever censored bar I've ever seen on the show, for instance), but I don't think any of the ones who've been eliminated would have lasted much beyond the point where they were.

And now that her "nemesis" Timothy has gone, I've found Miranda just blending into the woodwork. I'm ready to see newly discovered whiny child Ken, or overly-dramatic Helen who can't handle a critique without breaking down. I actually think Helen, more than Miranda, has benefited from these team challenges. Kate basically handed over the win during the Coney Island challenge, even though it was clearly a Kate design and Helen was little more than a seamstress/assistant on that one, which kept her safe last week (though you could tell Heidi and the producers were so close to saying "screw the immunity, that was terrible and you should be gone") and her team totally saved her again and kept the judges from looking more closely at whatever that was that she sent down the runway this past week.

Yeah, maybe the up-close is new, but the designers aren't there so how would they know? (unless their models told them).

What I hope not see but probably will, as in prior seasons, is the final 3 or 4 who are eliminated crying about not showing at fashion week. Everybody knows there are "decoys" who also show a full line at the actual event. Don't know, but assuming the producers pay them to create a line.

I wonder if next week will be a double elimination to put the numbers back on track.

It is amazing how quickly his garment went from being pretty to looking like a craft project.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Well I cried! I love Tim Gunn and I think it spoke even more that everyone thanked Tim for saving him. I don't expect a double elimination next week but one is inevitable.

A double elimination is possible, but I'm not 100% sure it's a certainty. With all of these shows, there's a certain number of episodes they need to make, which means there's a certain number of eliminations they need in order to get to the final number. If this season was built around Tim saving one person, than that "save" number could be built into the total number of episodes, meaning there will be no double elimination.

Does that make any sense?

I'm sure people are going to think I'm a mean old man for saying this but Justin didn't deserve to be saved. He hasn't really shown that he's a very good designer. I think the save should have been used further down the line when it's only good designers left and one of them deserves a second chance. I'm sure it was planned from the beginning that Justin would be the one saved to garner the most emotion from the proceedings.

This isn't a knock to those who are on reality shows with disabilities. Christine Ha is one of the most inspirational people I've ever seen but she was competing on a show where her disability directly impacted her ability to perform. You have to see to cook but you don't really have to hear to be a fashion designer.

This season is hitting us over the head a little too much with the emotion. I honestly don't care about Bradon proposing to the air instead of his boyfriend. If I have to hear one more thing about Jeremy's gran (who I gather wasn't even his grandmother) or his kids or his husband I'm going to puke.

While I admit to getting caught up in the emotion last night, I have to agree with you CB. That dress was caca and Justin deserved to go. The judges weren't "wrong". Tim saved him because he's a nice guy.

Clyde -- I had the same thought. I don't think he was saved because THAT design was not the weakest, but because he felt HE deserved another chance.

Maybe not the intent of the "save" but nicely used.

I also thought it was touching how silent they all were in their group goodbye to him before Tim announced. THAT silence was deafening, in a beautiful way.

Yes. I was thinking the same thing. The Tim Gunn Save is not a spontaneous choice that could strain the episode budget prompting the need for a double elimination. It's built into this season.

Justin did take the glue too far and it was an ugly mess, but I still would have sent Ken home for his ugly dress, his ugly design, his ugly fabric, and his ugly attitude. And Jeremy should have won this week.

Actually, I thought that was the intent of the save. So Tim can send a designer back in who went home too early because Tim believes they have potential. At any rate, Tim did say he believed the judges got it wrong in eliminating Justin.

I think Tim saved Justin because, well, first of all, he showed so much creativity with that glue gun which impressed Tim to no end. I'm sure Tim would like to see more of Justin's creativity. Secondly, Tim's such a good guy..
