I just watched the online premiere of this new TV show yesterday and it truly lives up to its hype. It was a great pleasure seeing Donna Murphy on screen even though her role is quite minor.
Does anyone know if she is supposed to be a series regular?
I believe that she does appear in at least one other episode.
The network premier is tonight. However, the pilot has screened on Netflix.
It premiered last night on Canadian TV and I was sort of watching it/sort of doing work.
What part was she playing?

She played Blair, it wasn't very clear if she was Danny's assistant or his wife or close friend. She is the one who goes up to him during the WGA's while Matt is getting the award. From what I gathered in the first episode, her role has potential for development once they define who she is. Even in the 5 lines she had, she was magnificent as usual.
The show also had an online premiere on AOL, the network premiere is tonight. I highly recommend it.
Danny's agent...

Thanks, I didn't get that from the episode.
Hey, Sarah Paulson (Cherry Jones' girlfriend) is on here as well. Who knew?

she wasn't, she was on The West Wing.
And one of the writers for West Wing is writing this show...
I thought that character (sorry I forgot her name) was based on Kristen. Was there an issue with the West Wing & her latest CD & publicity for it?
Overall, I liked the show, but I didn't get to catch the entire thing. I hope it does well. I hope NBC or Bravo airs it again sometime this week.
Aaron Sorkin created this show and The West Wing. He dated KC. The 700 Club stuff was based on her doing that when she promoted her CD. I thought it was handled beautifully. Sarah is fantastic and I really dig that character.
I thought the show was fascinating tonite.
I thought the whole thing was pretty smug. The drug addled TV writers that will save America...Sorkin really loves himself. Didn't buy Peet or Paulson -- part of that is the writing and part is the casting.
I could buy all the Messianic jazz when he was writing for the President of the United States, but for a comedy show? No. Sorry. I just can't watch this week after week.
PS> Matthew Perry was surprising...the best thing, IMO.
Is there a meltdown going on in this thread?
Only on this board would Sarah Paulson have to be identified as "Cherry Jones's girlfriend."
I thought it smug, too. Brilliant, yes, but so precious in its inside-ness. (And stealing from NETWORK is still stealing, even if you have characters announce that it's "just like NETWORK." The use of the reactionary Busfield character in exactly the same fashion only pointed up how stolen the idea was). I'll be curious if ordinary folk everywhere will find these internecine struggles in TV land worthy of an hour a week.
i loved it. i'm a sucker for sorkin's writing and the performances were great as far as i was concerned. c'mon, auggie, you know that good artists borrow and great ones steal.
I know, Rathie. I just enjoy pointing out that she is a BIG OLE LEZ!
That is her most interesting characteristic, IMO.
