Legendary actor Rod Taylor has passed away. He was best known for his role as Mitch Brenner in 'The Birds'. He also appeared in over 50 films such as 'The Time Machine', 'The Train Robbers', 'The Catered Affair', and 'Inglourious Basterds'. Families best know him as the voice of Pongo in '101 Dalmatians'. The latter role meant so much to me growing up since that was one of my favorite Disney movies. R.I.P.
The Birds Actor Rod Taylor Has Died at 84
Oh that's so sad. I'll have to watch 101 Dalmatians again in his memory.
Remember him in Time Machine battling the Morlocks

__________ had lead me to believe these deaths would stop with the end of 2014.
But alas, beautiful Rod is no more.
Handsome, talented man.
Loved him in The Time Machine and The Birds the best, but so many good performances.

I'd have been his glass bottom boat any day.

This news makes me sad. I got home from a long day at work Wednesday night and I turned on the TV (it's set to TCM when it's turned on) and "Sunday in New York", a comedy he starred in with Jane Fonda was on. I love that movie so I left it on and watched the rest of it and as I was watching it I thought to myself what a handsome man he was. He starred in so many classics. His memory will live on.

Loved him in The Birds, Inglourious Basterds and Sunday in New York.
Incidentally, love Bobby Darin's recording of the title song of the latter film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_tuCEnoFyA
@ PalJoey: Yes of course! I have it on my iTunes - Mel Torme version. Makes me want to drink a martini...stirred not shaken!

RIP --- a fine actor, and smokin' hot to boot. There's a silly little Bond spoof called THE LIQUIDATOR that's well worth checking out.
@ Roscoe: I love that you know about THE LIQUIDATOR. It has a great theme song sung by none other than Miss Shirley Bassey.

Great fun movie -- wonder how it holds up.
When I posted about his death on my FB page, the remarks were divided between nostalgia (childhood for us boomers, MACHINE the wild ride we treasured) and dismissal of his acting ("...if your coffee table is damaged, he's a perfect replacement...") Funny, I never thought about Taylor's acting. He was one of those early 60s screen presences that defined the era, and when you watch him in BIRDS, with some of the most bizarre dynamics -- he has to call his mother, the great Tandy, "dear," and deal with his bitter sexually frustrated about-to-come-out-as lesbian ex-girlfriend, Pleshette, while wooing the brittle flat-voiced manequin in Edith Head mint green, The Tippi -- he is remarkably sturdy. Yeah, like a nice coffee table, not a breakable one. Hitch and Evan Hunter also gave the 32ish Taylor a child sister in that film, making the Freudian brew of ick factors all the more unsettling. Rod, you were the times in which you lived for many of us. And the cheesey "Sunday in New York" was one of those movies that made NYC look like everybody's dream destination in adulthood.
He was like a comfortable pair of shoes you got used to. He was a competent not great actor. Reminded me of David Hedison. Both had a breakout movie (his was the original Fly) and did competent roles in some movies. Hedison padded out his resume with TV work. Taylor was basically movies.
his bitter sexually frustrated about-to-come-out-as lesbian ex-girlfriend, Pleshette...
What version of THE BIRDS were you watching; the unreleased director's cut?!!
...and dismissal of his acting ("...if your coffee table is damaged, he's a perfect replacement...")
What classy friends you have that insult the memory of a man after he's dead. Nice.

His ghost might have hurt feelings?
NAMO
We really have to stop meeting like this. Let it go.
Oh, please, can't I have a little fun? Jeesh. Pleshette plays the teacher like a neurotic out of CHILDREN'S HOUR, all her rejected by Mama's boy stuff voiced outright, and then near obsession with Tippi, her houseguest on the (SPOILER!) eve of her demise. It's just a glib comment, which I know never happen here.

I laughed at your post, Auggie.
[Also, does anybody know what ________'s post to me means?]
I think he is coming on to you Namo. The Mrs just doesn't do it anymore.
