She brushed it over, just saying it was tragic in with her defense on guns. Interesting how other people are devastated, even though we might not be connected directly to what happened.

I said it in my first post you moron, maybe your triple checking skills needs some tuning up. Saying how sorry I am about it isn't going to bring them back, I realize it's a tragedy, and I don't know how anyone could bring themselves to kill innocent children and I feel terrible for the families, but nothing is going to bring the victims back. I'm just giving my views on gun control and how if someone in the school had been armed maybe it wouldn't have happened, or wouldn't have been as bad as it was.

The way you think is so skewed. Obviously anyone who wants to do anything illegal will find a way to do it, whether it's getting a gun or scoring drugs. We're talking here about the big picture - GENERALITY. If guns in general are hard/impossible to get, CLEARLY it will make a difference. A difference for the better. In your "mind" guns should continue to be as easy to get as they are, because even if they aren't, a few maniacs can still get them.

Ummm, you don't think if someone took down the gunman before he shot all those kids would result in less death? I think if more sane people had guns they would be able stop people like this instead of waiting until it's too late. Do you think if another person at the school had a gun would also be shooting the kids? Any responsible gun owner knows how to handle a weapon and wouldn't put the kids in more danger.

And of course I don't think it should be easy to get a gun, no one with a history of a mental illness or a criminal record should be able to buy one, but people who want to be able to protect themselves and their families should be able to buy them and shouldn't be punished because of people like this.

Do you realize the murder rate in the US would be significantly higher if no one had guns to protect themselves from criminals? If you take away the guns from the people who bought them legally, and have never committed a crime, you're leaving people with nothing to protect themselves and just pray the police can get there in time if someone is attacking you. If that was the case, the only people who would have guns would be the criminals whose guns aren't registered and they probably aren't even allowed to own a gun. How exactly would that make crime go down? Especially in border states where so many guns are smuggled in.

Please show us figures showing how guns are preventing crime.

And I agree weapons like that shouldn't be legal to civilians, but regular hand guns and rifles shouldn't be banned completely for citizens who aren't criminals. The percentage of gun owners who actually commit crimes is incredibly small. There are statistics, according to this article, from Clinton researchers, that guns used for self defense happens at least 1.5 million times per year, others say 2.5 million times per year. Compared to around 10,000 murders by guns. These all have citations to prove it.
