Actually, the number of "justifiable" homicides has gone up by almost 300% in Florida and other states since the Stand Your Ground law was passed.

The point is that they may not in fact have been justifiable in a traditional definition, but the "Castle" laws are drafted so broadly that it makes it impossible to discern intent. Using deadly force when not faced with a threat of deadly force used to be a crime. No more in those states.

And, that you also do not believe that there is a chance at redemption or rehabilitation.

And, that a person is entitled to be a judge, jury and executioner based upon their own subjective fears.

Don't flatter yourself, you were saying things that were completely untrue and you would realize you were wrong if you did actually triple check before posting. So if I'm saying things that is apparently, considered by you to be an "intellectually dishonest debate tactic", your friends on this site are just as guilty of that as I am.

And really snafu? still believing I have no say and know nothing because after graduating college in a big city, I live at home? LIke thousands of other people my age are doing? Including someone else on this board I believe, but you don't condemn her because she's on your side. I have lived in the big city, the country, and a suburb of NY. It's not like I've been living in a small town my entire life and have no idea what the real world is like.

Name calling weakens everyone's arguments. It is a trap that should be avoided in any debate. I was mistaken in the fact that you said it was a tragedy. Your response was not to just refute my mistake, but digress to name calling.

I don't think you realize my problem is not with your political stance. I am probably to the right of many here when it comes to gun ownership. My problem is with anyone who are willing to so immediately co-opt this tragedy to be about politics instead of those who were lost.

This thread is now mostly about political beliefs. And also about how you are being mistreated by other BWWers, about how moronic we all are when it comes to the right to bear arms. The people who died today have at best become secondary to politics. That's what disgusts me, and was the impetus behind my initial comment.

Dottie, if you have made it past all the nastiness these last few pages, my thoughts are with your friends right now. I hope their children remained safe in spite of this tragedy. Please let us know if you find out anything specific we can do to help their community in the coming weeks. Even if it is just holiday cards for the surviving children to help brighten their day even just a little bit, I'm sure many of us would love to do something.

Almost 5 and a half million fire arms were made during 2010 alone. Not counting the ones that were imported. That's over 8 1/2 million new guns on the street in 2010.

But you haven't heard ONE story about anyone fighting back when someone starts shooting.

So, Abby needs to STFU, before some crazy person put a bullet between it's eyes.

Thanks to the few who actually supported me on here, it means the world. I never mean to anger anyone but as i say im passionate, Kad i think your outburst at me was totally unjust but i am used to it from you.

Other people on here have said the same as what i have said when it comes to sorting out gun crime, i think nearly everybody on here must agree that something desperately has to change, it will be harder to reach what exactly 'that' is but i still standby the fact that the amendment could be altered (it has happened with others before). Getting it changed is a whole other story.

I think the thing that angers people like myself from around the world when it comes to these things is that we are no longer shocked, heartbroken yes (i have cried so much tonight) but shocked no. The news here even reports how this will play out before it plays out, the death toll, interviews, misreporting, President Speech, name the shooter, call for a debate on gun laws....move on. The anger is because nobody sees ANYTHING changing. We hear the same arguments each time this happens, yes it's heartbreaking how young these kids were today, but it's also heartbreaking when teens and young adults or anyone really is shot in these mass shootings, yet we cry, we get angry and that's where it seems to stop. (i am still waiting for the news to start on a celebrity or a film, a perfect way to shift the focus from the real issue).

I know nearly everyone on here has a heart of gold and goes through the same anger and sadness as us outside America go through, i just wish that anger would continue on and get louder even after the news reporters have packed up and gone home.

Massacres like this would not happen in schools etc if guns were not accessible, it's that simple, anyone who tries this with a knife etc would be taken down straight away. I don't know how anyone on here can argue that.

Looking from the outside in we hear about more violence in the US then we do anywhere else (other than the Middle East). Hearing a father went outside and heard a noise so grabbed a gun to shoot thinking it was a raccoon and actually shot his own daughter (something that happened there not long ago) tells you everything. He thought it was a raccoon....a grabbed a gun, what was he protecting?

How about the parent who shot his son because he was wearing a mask so grabbed a gun and shot? and so on and so on. I agree with WithoutaTrace 100 percent that the only people who should be carrying guns are the police and the military, that is what you pay them for, to protect you. That's how we do it, thats how so many other do it.....simple fact, when we banned guns the gun crime statistics went down dramatically, yes it takes awhile to get them off the street, but why add to what's already there?

The 2nd Amendment was put in place in 1791........1791, it was whole other time and put in place for a whole other reason. Does 1791 represent today? of course not, things change, times change, surely it has to reflect a society today?

Just because you did research on something does not mean you totally got into the culture and zeitgeist of this country. I wrote my senior thesis on a film about an event in a foreign country and I would not consider myself an expert on that country in any way.'

Well first of all i don't learn things from entertainment movies, maybe you do but i don't. Secondly This is England was set in another time from today in a country that has radically changed since then (inc gun laws) because we had to move with the times and keep each other safe. Also the British parliament has plenty of problems and should be called out by anyone is something is jepordising someones life. I am no expert on American politics, i know enough and follow all kind of politics both at home and away, but that is it. However even a person who knows nothing at all about politics can see the major issue here. Lives are getting lost due to gun crime in a country that has very relaxed gun laws.

Please don't ever think i want to disrespect anyone, most people on here i adore and respect, and also never think im anti America because you could not be further from the truth.

I continue to watch this story unfold with deep sadness as i know you all do. My thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by this. Enough is enough
