I'm writing a speech, and I need good examples of well known overweight women who have been successful.
As of now, I have:
Camryn Manheim
Eve Ensler
How successful?
and how of size? (seriously)
I mean off the top of my head I'd say
Sara Ramirez
Queen Latifah
Mo'Nique (corrected spelling)
Rosie
Marissa Jaret Winokur
Kathy Najimy
Sara Rue
Oprah
but that does all depend on what your definition of 'of size' is.
eta:
Kirstie Alley
Emme
Steven Tyler's daughter- don't know her name, but she's a model

Mia Tyler, and she does some amazingly hot photo shoots.
Over_the_Moon, if you haven't read Camryn Manheim's book, I suggest running out and getting it immediately. She's a theatre nerd, ballsy, honest, and hilarious.
Don't be so sure, munk.
It also depends on what you define as "successful". Sex symbols? Role models? Philanthropists? Academics? Famous? Popular?
Rosie O'Donnell
Jennifer Holiday
Lainie Kazan
Sorry- Jennifer HOLLIDAY
'Mama' Cass Elliot of the Mamas and the Papas
Sophie Tucker
Kate Smith
Marie Dressler
Carnie Wilson (for a while anyway)
Concetta Ferrell (spelling?)
Totie Fields
Kathy Najimy, Sara Rue, Jennifer Holliday and Marissa Winokur are not exactly "of size" anymore.

Aretha Franklin, Jill Scott, Roseanne Barr, Kathy Bates.
I'd take Tiff's question into consideration as well. Are you thinking outside of fame and the arts? Can you point to examples in your own life?
Also, some of these women were not overweight until after they already had successful careers.
I second checking out Camryn Manheim's book...her (horrible) experiences at NYU are priceless.

Its hard to know what is meant by "of size." Is that anything over what's considered thin or slender and by whose standards? Is it a size 12/14 (which is pretty common or average although not thin) or noticeably heavier than average? Chubby? Obese?

I love Dressler... he is a HOOT in DINNER AT EIGHT.
Boy times have changed? It is unlikely that someone like Dressler would be the top box office draw today.

Me
Loretta Devine is a terribly successful actress. She is in absolutely everything. It's like "oh, there's Loretta Divine again." She likes to work and never turns down a job. I absolutely love her speaking voice. Very distinct. She is "Divine" in every sense of the word. Love her!

Hey, remember the two fat ladies on the cooking channel?
So sad one passed away...
They were successful!
