is it just me or is Shawn Johnson adorable?
Shawn Johnson is a-million-times adorable!!!
(And on a selfish note: The athlete number on her back is my birthday, so I love her that much more!)
**** SPOILER ALERT ****
Way to go, Nastia! The highest score (seen yet) in Beijing! Nailed it on those bars.
**** END SPOILER ****
HAHAHAHAHAHHA
I f'ckin LOVE how insane and wild and enthusiastic Bela Károlyi is getting in the studio! They're hella loving him (and a tiny bit making fun of him). TOO FUN!
NOTE HOW MANY FREAKIN' PEOPLE ARE IN THIS STADIUM WATCHING THOSE GIRLS!!! IT'S PACKED!

I want to put her in a papoose and carry her around.
Haha, oh, Bela. "Vow!!! Vow!!!"

Oh, at 16 years and 4'9",
I definitely think she's papoose-able

There might be a silver-lining to Hoff getting so many 4th places in the semis and the finals. She might lose the medals, but it gives you hope in what her power might be at the next games with 4 more years of training.

Is there a reason why Bela is not there coaching the team like he used to?

EUG - does this need a spoiler? (I am serious since it is your thread and I will respect your standards)
"Chinese are kicking the uneven bars!"

Holy cow...the U.S. men's swim team is DOMINANT. That race wasn't even close. They shattered the previous world record by 5 seconds!

SPOILER!!!!
Poor Alicia. Can you imagine how she's going to feel all her life now? Awful.
I know. I feel so bad for her.
And I find it interesting how the commentators are being very persistent in their justified continued skepticism on the age of the Chinese gymnasts...
The second Chinese gymnast was so much better than the first, wasn't she? I loved her!
who th ehell do these Chinese think they are fooling?? 12 years old?? please... i seriously think a few of those gymnasts are no more than 10 years old.
i cannot believe the olympics would let this slide... there should be serious strict investigations into these girls ages... its the friggin olympics!
pisses me off...
*********SPOILER********
Well, congratulations to China. Winning gold in Women's Gymnastics and Men's Gymnastics. Precise and perfection-driven teams.
On the BIG finish... their final floor routine... how ELSE do you end the event? Explosive national pride, dancing to a song COMPOSED specially for the Olympics and for the gymnast, the audience clapping along... and only needing a 13.045 or better to win it.
What makes me sore, I suppose, is how BLATANTLY under-age these Chinese girls are. There should be a serious investigation into their documents. You can TELL by looking at their teeth... some of them don't even have all of their adult-smile.
WAY TO GO for wonderful performances by Shawn Johnson and Natasia Liukin for great floor and beam exercises. Poor Alicia is NEVER going to forgive herself. We have a strong team. Let's just be happy for them!!!

I wonder how different these results would be if the Americans were competing against 16 yr old Chinese gymnasts. I guess we will never know.

Those girls are NOT 16! They cheated with the Chinese swimmers years ago and they are cheating again!
The thing is that even though they won the Gold, it won't be taken seriously by many, many people.
And it makes the Chinese look worse than if they had competed fairly and come in 8th.
And it is unbelievably unfair to the other girl's on the other teams.
Well, this age thing has been on my mind. How did they get away with procuring passports with inaccurate ages?
Well, the only way the IOC can verify ages is by passports or birth certificates. Both of which are, conveniently, government-issued documents.
I mean, during the Soviet-era, the Eastern bloc countries supposedly lied about the ages of athletes many times, so it is nothing new.
