BEST QUOTE OF THE NIGHT:
"This is like fairytale good!"
That was beautiful! We're all clapping here!
Jonathan Horton is seriously kicking ass.

There's his smile!!!! YES!!!!
Am I assuming I'm not the first to have a fantasy involving the USA mens gymnastic team?
I never thought I'd say it (because I had a hard-time "warming up" to this almost all-new-face Men's USA Gymnastics team) but I REALLY LIKE THESE GUYS! I was all sad when the Hamms weren't coming...
...but Jonathan Horton has won me over. Rocking the house with each and every one of his events! Do you SEE him hit those landings?

I just had an *enlightenment* moment.
Look at those 3 boys REPRESENTING the United States, about to do the pommel horse.
1 White Boy
1 Japanese Boy
1 Indian Boy
= USA
What WE must look like to the REST of the world who tunes-in... inspiration. This is the face of OUR country. The face of EVERYONE.
*****SPOILER ALERT*****
Who else just sucked-in their breath, tightly, when Kevin Tan came to a grinding halt on the pommel horse? It's so much pressure, especially for this final event, but he must *know* he knocked the USA out of prime placement... maybe even medal?
There's only a few minutes left to this competition... Raj Bhavsar just dismounted and Alexander Artemev is hopping on-board. Here we go.
*****SPOILER END*****
TOTALLY JUST LEARNED THAT KEVIN TAN (USA Mens Gymnastics, Team Captain) IS FROM MY HOMETOWN OF FREMONT, CALIFORNIA!!!

Kai Wen and Raj have very nearly cost us a medal in the team event with their disastrous routines on the pommel horse.
Hasn't the pommel horse long been the Achilles heal for American men in gymnastics?

brdlwyr: We love you, but remember to use ***spoiler warnings*** We have a lot of friends in this thread from other time-zones, like Denver and California (shoutouts!)
I'm just just JUST as excited right now as you are... watching these final routines (from Germany and China)
*****SPOILER ALERT******
China kicked major a*s and took home the gold for their home with a spotless second-half in their team finals. It wasn't a surprise... they (laughably) only had to score higher than 8.675 (can be done with their eyes closed) on the high-bar.
Japan (disappointingly?) takes silver.
But a very very happy happy happy USA men's team --- made up entirely alternates and newbies!!! --- win the bronze!!! Jubilant young Americans! How adorable were they????
*****SPOILER END****

Spoiler? I stayed up for this. Who are we spoiling? China?
Thanks goodness we were able to absorb the horrendous scores by Raj and Kai Wen on the pommel horse and still hang on to the bronze!
Brdy, you spoil me just by being my friend. XOOO
NOTABLE TEARS TONIGHT:
David Durante (USA Gymnastics Alternate) crying from the stands, watching his team huddle and cheer. What a wonderfully strong team-player. The third and only alternate who didn't get to run and perform on those mats. But clearly, his heart and soul was down there with his talented brothers.
The Chinese Gymnasts in their Gold Medal winning huddle. They are usually so straight-laced and precise. But some of those guys completely crumbled once the final score came in.
Natalie Coughlin tears-up after the national anthem at her gold medal podium. Such a beautiful blue-eyed girl.
WONDERFUL BROADCAST!!!
THANKS FOR WATCHING AND THE CHATTING, YOU GUYS!
I love what these Games do for us (strangers, friends, athletes, US viewers and the World)

I am so happy for the Men's gymnastics team and for Natalie. Amazing, Amazing Night!
Loved the shout out from Artemev to Denver! We are still watching Gymnastics here!
I am in LOVE with Jonathan Horton. Just thought I would share.
Another good night! Our local news is on and then coverage continues. I think I will watch the late night coverage for a while! They are showing the medal ceremony for mens team gymnastics and a few things we missed in prime time. And thanks for the shout out EugLoven! It was hard not to read this thread but I stayed away until things were over here!
Nite all.

The gymnastics was amazing last night. I'm sorry NBC didn't show our guys on the rings. David Durante's reaction in the stands brought me to tears. I'm so glad they included him on the Today Show this morning. To think that the silver medal was within reach.
I was just able to watch the streaming video of the US men's ring competition last night. It's kind of strange without the commentary, but I'm glad it's available.
The medal ceremony brought me to tears when the Japanese and Chinese teams congratulated the US team on the medals stand.
