Sanford county Florida is 80% white. There were likely very few minorities in the pool to pick from.
Those jurors were going back to a community that overwhelming supported Zimmerman.

adgal, you're crucifying this prosecution and that's not really fair. They absolutely made some missteps along the way but there should be equal blame thrown to the investigators, the Governor's office, and the Sanford PD. They were at a disadvantage from the beginning due to mistakes made during the initial investigation. Had anyone thought Zimmerman would actually be arrested and charged, they would have handled it differently but, sadly, they made assumptions and presumed Trayvon Martin guilty of his own death right out of the starting gate.

Also, Angela Corey was not putting on a "performance," she was answering questions in a very detailed and eloquent way. I appreciated the way she handled the aftermath compared to that joke of a press conference by the defense, who were smug and arrogant and absolutely disrespectful.

If the prosecutors had brought up more of Zimmerman's past, it would have opened up the door to bring in Martin's past (his school records, his texts and cell phone pics, his drug use, etc.). What that article you posted doesn't tell you is that Judge Nelson amended the Court's decision to rule that if Zimmerman's past were brought into the trial, the defense would be given another opportunity to bring in Martin's past. It was a double-edged sword for the prosecution.

I also think it's a mistake to take race out of it. That lets us stick our heads in the sand and ignore how frequently this sort of thing happens in our country.

Erik - I think that's exactly the point, though. It is easy for someone to counter with "Oh, should George be guilty just because Trayvon was black?!" So analyzing this from a strictly non-racial perspective actually supports the argument that George was guilty, guilty, and even more guilty. But trust me, I don't think anyone is denying that race played a huge role in this story.

I want to know where the riots are we were promised. Fox News, Most conservatives,Rush Limbaugh, and the Tea Party all swore once the verdict was read there would be mass riots all around the country. I heard the Black Panthers would strike and there would be looting and all around chaos. They will be so disappointed if there is not at least some violence from the black community regarding the verdict.

In a situation like that, you'd be lucky if the perpetrator is left alive long enough to make it to the trial.

Look at the history of the Sanford, FL.Police Dept. at how they deal with racism. While your at it look at George Zimmerman's past as well. Now look at the verdict. Justice was not served. Those who think it was are racists and idiots.

I honestly can't comprehend how ANYONE can say "justice has been served" when a 17-year-old was killed in an unprovoked attack. All Zimmerman had to do was ignore Trayvon, like he was requested to do.

It's really pretty evil for someone to say "justice has been served." I've seen it on facebook and twitter as well. I just can't wrap my head around it.

Justice is a PROCESS, it is not an outcome. The justice process was followed; a trial was held, a jury was convened, they heard all the evidence and a verdict was reached. THAT is the justice system. You can disagree with the verdict, but you cannot say that justice was not served.
