So, I recently attended a screening of this, and... well.

It's a legitimately great film.

Don't get me wrong: it's ridiculous. It's nuts. But that's the point.

But it's also often hilarious and goes to a place that's actually really sweet and touching.

It's amazing in the way that it... actually understands how Legos work. Technically, of course, but also... how they work at a fundamental level. Why kids love them. Why adults remember them fondly. And it understands how we used to play as kids! Why we love Star Wars and superheroes and Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, and every story about epic quests and a chosen one and all that.

It also makes fun of all of it. And of itself. Another plus.

I really recommend seeing it- especially since we're all creative-types here.

Maybe see it at a time of day when there aren't any kids. Or bring your own nieces or nephews or children.

I'm going to go see it this weekend and I plan on seeing it at a theater where young audiences behave.

Can't wait to hear what you think. It's a great family film- one that can actually be enjoyed by everyone in the family.

And for what it's worth: the first reviews have been glowing, as well. This could be a surprise hit.

My adorable friend I see animated movies with (yes...I apparently niche my friends when it comes to movie-going) saw a preview for this when we saw Frozen. At first we both rolled out eyes, but by the end of the preview we couldn't wait to see it. I'm so glad to hear that you thought the movie lived up to the preview I experienced.

I'm not big on 3D in general. In this case, it adds a lot of depth to the animation- which is already incredibly realistic in its depiction of, uh, Lego. The entirety of the world, from explosions, to smoke, to water, to fire- is all rendered in Lego pieces. Seeing it in 3D adds to that charm- it makes it look all very tangible.

Awesome! Just pre purchased our tix for a vieing on Sat. I picked the dinnertime show 4:45 hoping it might be a little less kid time.

21 Jump Street was one of my favorite film surprises of 2012. Looking forward to this.

I saw this last night. It was very creative and imaginative. It had a perfect voice cast and an excellent story. The animation is visually impressive. Warner Bros. animation has been struggling lately, but they are back in top form with this movie.

This is an animated film based on the colorful plastic children's blocks. If you paid money to see it you should be euthanized.

Well, I didn't love this as much as you did, but it was sweet and enjoyable. My son loved it. I had a bunch of HS boys that saw and loved it.

97% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Better reviews than Frozen. HUGE opening weekend.

Lord and Miller did the 21 Jump Street movie which was also one of those great, 'Wait, this is awesome. This shouldn't be awesome at all. BUT IT IS!!!' kind of movies. Not surprised they did well here.

Plan on seeing it later in the week. The 'Everything is Awesome' song is my jam.

It was sweet & fun but not the mitziah so many reviewers seem to see. Several laugh out loud moments/references. Will Arnett was v funny as Batman. But that whole "YOU ARE SPECIAL" thing i find very wearying. Cos mostly - they ain't.

I saw it tonight with a few friends and we all had a great time. There were very few, if any, children in the audience, but the theatre was pretty full and very responsive. I think it hits the right amount of nostalgia to really appeal to those of us who grew up playing with LEGOs and I'd imagine it will entertain the kids quite well. The best movie ever? No, I wouldn't go that far. One of the more satisfying animated movies aiming for a cross-generational audience? I would agree that it belongs in that category.

The viewing before us was packed with kids, the viewing I brought my son to was packed with kids, and those standing in line to go in AFTER us had a lot of kids.

Just saw on the news: Number 1 at the box office this weekend, Monument Men #2.

I loved it.

The screening I saw was packed with kids and they really got into it. I've never seen an audience of kids that quiet (except for laughter) in my life. No fussy kids. No wandering around the theater because they're bored. Just a room full of adults and children enjoying a really entertaining film.

I have to take time out my busy schedule to go see this. It looks like a lot of fun and speaks to my "inner kid". Glad those of you who saw it enjoyed it! I love kids so kids in attendance will not bother me.
