ETA: what's Joe's Pub like as a performing venue? And do you really have to get a dinner reservation to clinch the seating arrangements? (I'm new to that part of The Public.)

Joe's Pub is one of my favorite venues in the city. I've seen some of my favorite people play there, and it's just got a really cool feel to it. It's small, I think the capacity is somewhere around 150. I love it. Good photos are hard to come by, because even when the house lights are up it's pretty dim, but here are some. http://www.joespub.com/content/view/17/31/
The seating situation can vary depending on the show. For some things, you're wise to make a reservation in advance if you want to be guaranteed a table -- buying a ticket alone does not guarantee you a seat -- but the reservation doesn't cost more. For this, the pricing says that if you want a table, you have to buy the more expensive tickets. So I would assume that doing that means you're set, but for safety's sake, I would say you should probably give them a call and find out how they're handling it anyway. Can't hurt.
Raul will be participating in Babalu: The American Songbook Goes Latin - Featuring the Music of the Desi Arnaz Orchestra on January 9-11, which is part of the 2010 season of 92nd Street Y's Lyrics & Lyricists.
Heh. I'm cool with it. I hope he's got something up those sleeves of his but as long as he's not sneaking off to Hollywood or something on us, I think he deserves some time off. Hopefully soon, I really miss seeing him on stage. So I'll take what we can get. (And no, I'm not just being diplomatic. He's spoiled his fans rotten over the past few years, trust me, I know that! We've gotten used to being able to see him so often. But he's not a performing robot, you know? I hope he's relaxing. And preparing his best Vitameatavegamin commercial, because that needs to happen. )
With the Babalu thing coming up, I was thinking (fearfully) that Luci Arnaz is working on a Mom and Dad movie and wants Raul to play her father. Talk about sneaking away to Hollywood...

David walked into the valley
With a stone clutched in his hand
He was only a boy
But he knew someone must take a stand
There will always be a valley
Always mountains one must scale
There will always be perilous waters
Which someone must sail
