And the Come to the Cabaret concert is back up on tdf if anyone is interested.
I find him incredibly attractive in those clips. And incredibly sexy.
It must be the suspenders. :-P
Apparently there was a focus group screening for 25/8 last night, and several people commented on/reviewed it on the IMDb message board for the film: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0872230/

I just received the LA Theatre Works audio cd's, KING HENRY, THE SHADOW OF SUCCESSION. Raul is Hotspur and Pistol. The production is of the Chicago production by the Cort (Court?) Theater. The cast is a little uneven. and I am not particularly familiar with the histories so I am struggling with the identities but it seems to be worth hearing. I have only listened to the first 20 minutes or so - Total running time 119 minutes, 2 cd's.
Thanks Wonkit. I haven't received mine yet. Hopefully they'll be waiting at work on Monday!
Ha! I was right about Hotspur! Is there anything in the notes to indicate when this was recorded?

No notes, no photos, no date readily determinable. I am guessing it is during Raul's Chicago-based days so late 1990's? I will see if I can find anything from other sources.
Ah. I was hoping there was more in the package that I was able to find on the 'net. A couple of places said 1998 or 1999, so that makes the most sense.
Hotspur... hee!!

Now THAT totally sounds like a Country/western porno name. And Raul Esparza aka Roland Spicer as "Hotspur". Yee-haw.

No luck with my research so far - someone will have to ask The Man himself.
Oh, my. *gasp*

He looks so...sorrowful.
Awww, I prefer to read it as "contemplative".
Y'know (and I'm sure I'll get fried for saying this), feature for feature he is NOT a handsome man. That nose, the chin, the brow ridge....but somehow when you put it all together, and then add in the the explosion of personality and talent, it's just.... magical.
ETA: he does have the most perfect ears!

Humbug, that just made my night!
I sort of agree, but sort of don't. I wasn't really physically attracted to him until I met him in person and got lost in his eyes.
I just don't think photographs do him justice. Because his eyes truly glisten and I swear sometimes change colors, his hair is fantastic, and well, he's got a great bum.
Sigh. Fixing the header I screwed up.
Humbug, where's that photo from?
I do agree with you. He's hardly classically handsome, just like he doesn't have a classically great voice. In fact, objectively he sort of looks kinda goofy. But, yes, he has such the personality and charisma that it's really hard to take my eyes off him sometimes. I tend to think that's more valuable than perfect features. Good looks fade; charisma not only doesn't but it creates an aura of attractiveness as well.
It was taken Friday at the Drama Desk cocktail reception, where they give all the nominees certificates commemorating their nomination. It's a big, crazy press gang bang.
I think the simplest way to put it, and something I feel we can all agree on, is that Raúl is not "classically handsome". Personally, I don't care for that type. I find it boring and totally uninteresting. Raúl's features are too strong for that, but for me, that's what makes him so attractive. The features that would look weird on anyone else come together and fit perfectly on him, and when you fire everything up with his personality, well, it's just magnificent.

Looking forward to tonight. It should be "interesting."
Ah, I think it's going to be great! I'm a huge huge huge Kander and Ebb fan. I do wish the weather would let up, though. Gross.

I haven't been to many one-night-only performances but with Kander/Ebb/Doyle/Esparza/etc., I am sure it can hardly be disappointing.
I have been caught in the rain so often these past few days that I feel like a daffodil.
Last year's version of this same benefit was one of the greatest nights of theater I've ever seen.
Awww, I love daffodils! They're my favorite flower!
Only have a moment, will say more later, but oh my GOD, what a show. Doyle couldn't be there as he's working on his movie, so Raul hosted. Heh. A beautiful evening.

Did anyone keep a list of what was performed? It was indeed a fabulous evening. Raul was very charming as host - and several COMPANY alums also performed. Liza was a no-show. More later from me, too.
