I think I'm more relieved than excited, ha. Sad to see that he's the only nomination for STP, though, considering how good the reception was. It's a tough year, though.
Note: the paper version had a paragraph introducing the playlist. Raul said that they had done two tablereads of the play. Orsino gives Olivia a ring but Raul thinks he should give her a mixtape... (I think)
Yeah, I'm kinda lost without the intro, but....have I got this straight? It's not Raúl's mixtape, it's Raúl's idea of what Orsino would put on his mixtape (presumably based on his interpretation of the character)?

I guess... it's a bit confusing :) It's *such* a weird piece, like that line "Duke's got taste"... is that Raul saying that or the Time Out editor?
I have to say, both Raúl and Orsino have wonderfully eclectic tastes.
And from the way the whole thing reads, I'd say it's all Raúl, and not the TO editor. There's a through-line to those notes that feels like a stream of consciousness there. And (assuming those ARE Raúl's notes) that's a fascinating glimpse of how he sees (and presumably intends to play) Orsino. You people who'll get to see it are so so so lucky....
"Asks the question, why do I feel this way if we?re not supposed to be together after all? Duke?s answer: Wait. Is it the guy standing next to me who makes me feel this way? Is he the one? I think he is. Okay, I like boys, then. Wait. The dude is a girl? Okay, I like girls again. And everything ends happily ever after. If you say so, Shakespeare."
That made me laugh.
And sorry Humbug, I bet I screwed up the heading cause I just edited.
"What a mystery this world. One day you love them and the next day you want to kill them a thousand times over." The Masked Bandit in THE FALL
It's OK, I fixed it. And yeah, I LOL'd at that, too! Orsino is one muddled dude!
Raúl had this to say at the Tony nominees press reception today:
"Raul Esparza, who was nominated for Speed-the-Plow, spoke about the pressure the acclaimed revival faced when his original co-star Jeremy Piven? now in legal battle with the show's producers ? left abruptly.
"We were scared. We had been doing very well commercially and critically, but we actually thought we might have to close. We worried about surviving, and what was frustrating was that we had this huge hit on our hands."
The crisis brought him even closer to director Neil Pepe and co-star Elisabeth Moss : "There was a you-and-me-against-the-world quality."
Esparza said he was amused by playwright David Mamet 's joke that Piven, who cited mercury poisoning, was leaving the show to pursue a career as a professional thermometer: "David is a man of few words, but when he speaks he knocks you sideways."
Also, I'm pretty sure the mix tape thing is a tape Raul made of songs that represent Orsino/the story. I don't think it's any more complicated than that.
I think it's something like that. Or the press has to be there at 9:30 and it starts shortly thereafter. But it's early in order to fit it in in time for performers to make their matinee call times.
