I sort of agree with the judges about Marcel and his foams and gels...mostly because I'd never want to eat them...and I think a lot of the hate he gets is from doing things like what he did in the last episode when the team won and he didn't want to give Sam props for being the leader. I mean, that was IRRITATING.
It was time for Betty to go, I mean, that soup thing was just stupid.
I'm a Sam fan, not that I have ANY idea what any of it tastes like, but it usually looks and sounds good, HAHA...but Elia seems to be the most consistent and least annoying if we're going to include personality traits (that's of course, if we forget the one episode where she flipped out, HA).

Was I the only one who hadn't realized that Ted Allen is Steve Allen's son?
Regarding Ilan, I thought he showed a remarkable lack of class when he dissed Marcel's dish to the guests. I didn't think Marcel bellowed that badly to Betty, and he was in the middle of plating. Doesn't every contestant have a right to be a little high strung at that moment?
Marcel is an annoying gnat, but I can't believe how Sam and Ilan can't deal with it. Chill out guys. LOL. Of course, I don't have to live with him for a month.

LaurenB, are you sure re: Ted Allen and Steve Allen? I just checked both of their bios on Wikipedia and it doesn't mention that. Where did you hear that?

LOL. No, I'm not sure. I read it somewhere, but I can't remember the source, and it may have been a questionable source at that.

lol Lauren. It just rang false. Also, on Steve Allen's bio it said he produced one son with Audrey Meadows. I know Ted is not the spawn of Alice Kramden. It would have been really funny had it been true, though! I was thinking, geez, the things you learn on Broadwayworld.com. I had no idea Mary Martin was a lesbian until yesterday.

I did a search, and I think I read it on Dave's blog (last year's Top Chef contestant, his blog is on Bravo's website). He made some reference to it, and then later other people corrected him. So please ignore!!

No! I will taunt you with this forever!
Anyway it was time for the crazy lady to go. See ya, Betty!
It was refreshing to have Padma's lady bits covered this week.
So glad Betty is out of there, too. I didn't think Marcel "yelled" at her either when he needed assistance.

I can see how Marcel can annoy people, and can really picture him being a dick off camera, but Betty's a lot older and should be more mature. I liked her a lot in the beginning, I'm sure she is talented and she DOES display warmth and excellent people skills (in a customer/restaurant setting) but she was getting to be too much.
Thank GOODNESS Betty is gone! Last night's episode made me furious - I know we don't see everything that goes on, but even the Judges, in their blogs, say that they don't see what Marcel did to deserve all the crap he gets. Sam and Ilan may be talented, but they had no place doing what they did.
I still can't believe Michael has made it this far, but his stuff looked great yesterday and maybe he'll consistently step up from now on.
Marcel's an ass and has been since the beginning...I hate him and his hair, but Sam and Elan were too much last nite...I had them as favorites (personal and winning the show) but they both dropped with the childish behavior. I was sure the nasty parting shot by Elan would get him sent home, and his dessert looked disgusting.
Betty didnt get on my nerves as much as y'all...and I think that she finally went, not because of her soups (the service was idiotic) but because she's been in the bottom so much lately.
...and the "gelee had no taste" line seemed SO rehearsed between B&E.
I'm not a big fan of Marcel, but I think everyone seemed a little hard on him on this episode. Ilan deserved to be called out on his catty remark on Marcel's cherry dessert...that was just ridiculous. It seems like Marcel is always offering to help the other chefs, but they overreacted to him "barking" at Betty.
Have I mentioned that I adore Elia? She's funny, sweet, seems like a good chef and she does some mean Pilates. Go Elia!

Wolverine (Marcel) did not bark at Betty! I wanted to say "geez, haven't you people worked in a professional kitchen?" Things get high strung. I think it was just a "wait hold up!" not a bark. Betty is a bee-yotch. I used to like her, but she is way too much of a drama queen. And her food lately has sounded and looked like vomit.
I don't see where all the Marcel hate is coming from. He seems a bit conceited, sure, and likely quite annoying at times. And the foams need to go. But Sam and Ilan are instigators, and last night were acting like they were in junior high. And the little cherry slam from Ilan was unprofessional and unwarranted. Esepcially since Ilan's dish looked like a complete disaster. I've awlays liked Ilan, but last night (maybe it was editing) I thought he was a being a real jerk.
I was glad to see Michael win. He cracks me up. And Elia's chicken looked divine. I checked the recipe on Bravo's Web site, and there are four sticks (read, 1 pound) of butter in the recipe for one chicken. Yikes, but yummy! No wonder the judges thought it tatsted so good!

I would never use that much butter in a single chicken recipe at home.
But if I were on Top Chef, and being judged on the sole taste and presentation of ONE dish? Heck, I'd throw as much butter, cream and yummy goodness in to win a challenge. Fatty foods make things extra-yummy!

I'm still thinking about dishes representing "lust." You would think oysters would have been the obvious choice over cherries and foam...hmmm.

Now that I think about it, though "Cherry and Foam" has a certain nuaghtiness about it too...at least the ingredients!
On Harold's blog, he suggested southern BBQ for sloth, which I thought was interesting.
"Sloth makes me think of barbeque. Last week, on vacation with my lady, I stopped of at this place in Atlanta called Poole’s. Seriously incredible ribs. And that's the thing. Slow cooked. Northern Georgia. Braised. Cooked a really long time. Big and fatty."
I am glad Betty is gone. Bye bye BEEYOTCH. She might be talented, but she is a pouty puss and a screaming mimi when it doesn't go her way. After a few wins, she really tanked. I loved when Ted Allen said her asparagus burrito looked like something that she just raked up.
Also, Ilan and Sam lose huge points with me. We all know Marcel is annoying, so just ignore him. The constant crucifixion of him is pointless and immature. We understand that no one likes him.
I think at this point Elia and Michael are showing the most class, even in Mike is a little sloppy. They do not disrespect people.
I think Ilan's jab at Marcel was a really stupid move on his part and showed his true character. He was a petulant child. He needed to go in a corner and cry.
I think Marcel does a nice job of letting people project onto him and have a fit and not respond. It's very mature but it must chip away at his ego.
Ilan lost huge points from my last night. I even left him a really nasty comment on his Myspace.
I'm glad Michael stepped up and actually DID something, and won! But I don't think he'll win the competition.

I'm sad to see Betty go. She wasn't the best cook but she brought a lot of personality to the show. I'm glad to see Michael win. His dish did look good and was so different from how he usually carries himself. I was afraid Ilan would go. He's top chef to me
Marcel should've been long gone. Being a top chef isn't just about cooking. Personality matters since you will be working with other people in the kitchen. The same way that being an American Idol isn't just about singing well. The whole package counts. Even more so, his style isn't flexible to suit different tastes and situations.
Yes, but look at what a rotten beeyotch Tiffany was last season and the judges (and Lorraine Bracco) defended her saying it wasn't a popularity contest. In the end, it bit her in the a@# with her fellow contestants, but honestly no one seemed to care she was the devil.
I think that Michael should have gone a long time ago. Of course the one time I say that though he wins the quickfire and the elimination challenge.
