According to various articles online, Ugly Betty will disappear off the tv screens in March to make way for two other shows, one Samantha Who? and the other a new show titled "In The Motherhood." Supposedly it will be back in the Spring, but apparently it hasn't been doing too well in the ratings.

This pisses me off so much. It feels like a death sentence for the show.
It does, doesn't it.
Is that Gavin Creel in your avatar?

I read it won't be back till June. At first I was outraged, but it's been a rocky season. It started out really crappy, was really good for two or three episodes and then just became unspectacular.
Kec, yes that is Gavin. =]
The show hasn't been as great as it was in season 1, but I still love it. Marc and Amanda alone make the show worth watching.

And this is just one more reason why ABC is digging a grave for itself.
I like the addition of Connor and Molly -- he REALLY caught my attention -- and now I'm interested to see how this storyline will play out.
I was speaking to my cousin about this. He is a freelance editor and has worked with ABC a few times. He was telling me while Ugly Betty isn't a bad rated show and that in fact it is one of the more popular shows on that channel. He said that they most likely have to shift the time slot around to compete with what other channels are showing at that time. Now, I don't know what other channels are airing so I don't know off hand if there is a channel that is airing another popular show at the same time Ugly Betty is on.
I really doubt that this show will be taken off the air all together. It is a popular show that is for sure. And, ABC will be digging themselves a grave if they decide to cancel it. It does say a lot about the show that it was able to survive the writers strike and still come out with a very strong fanbase. Keep in mind, that there were a bunch of shows that had a loyal fanbase, Pushing Daisies being one of them, that got the ax due to the writers strike.

What a mistake ABC would be making if they let this go!
I love Ugly Betty and think this may be good for the series. Survivor returns in February, and it usually kicks Betty's butt in the ratings. Let's see how "Samantha Who" and the new Megan Mullaly sitcom do in that timeslot.
"Meanwhile, ABC denies that “Ugly Betty” is canceled, but its future doesn’t look very promising. After earning glowing reviews and a loyal audience in its debut season, it has lost much of its ratings luster. Last week, Fox moved “Bones” into the 8 p.m. time slot vs. “Betty” and “Bones” cleaned “Betty”’s clock."
“Ugly Betty” a goner on Thursday nights
Something happened during Season 2 and the show just lost its charm. I have become tired of its formulaic, predictable approach (Daniel does something, Betty cleans up the mess while neglecting her family and getting ridiculed along the way) and just its outrageous annoying twists. They seem to have stopped telling a story. Plus, at this point, Betty just annoys me, I hate that she allows everyone to step on her. I've also grown to dislike the Marc character and even Justin annoys me now. Hopefully the break will let the writers get their groove back.
I wonder if IN THE MOTHERHOOD will do well at all.
Season 3 has been much much better than season two. If this is true, this really sucks. Ugly Betty is my feel good show.
I remember reading an interview with America Ferrera around the time the show announced that it was moving production from LA to New York City. In the interview she had said that even she felt that the show lost some of its charm in season two. She went on to say that she talked with the writers to figure out how to get the show back on track. I got the impression that everyone involved sort of felt that things did get off track in season two and there were things that they wanted to fix for season three.
After watching this season I have the impression that problems were fixed and that the creative team noticed the problems and worked on fixing them.
Also, I just have trouble understanding why ABC would spend a ton of money to move production for the show from LA to New York City if they didn't have some sort of long term plan for it. It just seems strange that they would do something so expensive only to pull out half way through.
I will admit, I did love watching the show more now that they were filming in New York. There were a couple of outside shots that were supposed to take place downtown, and the fake sets that looked like it might, possibly, be close to what it looked like in real life really got to me. It was just so hard to watch because it looked so fake. I understand that it is possible to have a show set in NYC and be filmed in LA. But, I felt that ABC wasn't even trying when it came to the outside shots. Hell, How I Met Your Mother is filmed in LA but is a very New York City centered show. And, even when it comes to the shots of the gang walking down the street or just being outside I can buy that they are really in NYC despite it being filmed in LA. I just couldn't buy it when Betty was being filmed out west before the move.
I loved this show at first, but I've sort of lost interest in it.
season 2 was a bit of a mess but ive found season 3 really good

I think ABC's conspiring to keep me away from the TV. First "Pushing Daisies," now this...
I think most of this season has been a vast improvement over last year, but season 1 really has been a hard act to follow.

I thought even when it WAS shot in LA the exteriors were shot in New York and the actors were green screened.
Ray, I am right with you. How many times is she going to have to choose between a big work thing and big family thing? "This is my JOB!" "This is your FAMILY!"
And I'm kind of over her always getting hot guys. I mean, I know it's a fantasy and all, but give me a break.
This season is nothing but floundering around half-baked ideas. It feels like the writers were in a time crunch and just tossing out mini-plots by the seat of their pants. There's nothing that really grounds the show any more. The characters just seem to be running in circles.
I thought this season was a vast improvement over last. Nothing will get me to stop watching a show more than when they screw with the schedule.

I watched about the first 5 episodes of season 1 of this show, then lost interest. My one thought on this show from the very beginning has been that it should NEVER have been an hour-long program. 1/2 hour would have worked much better.
