So if this baby is a girl will she be Queen one day, or do they still prefer boys? I know there was talk of change to that rule, but I never heard anything offical-like.
This child could be sixty when they become monarch, assuming the monarchy lasts that long.

I'm not certain, but I think the child will be third in line, behind Charles and William, irrespective of gender. I'm pretty sure they changed their rules fairly recently.

They did change the rules to allow the first born of any gender to be crowned. After all, Elizabeth II set an excellent example of the ability of a woman to fulfill the role of a constitutional monarch. So, yes, it is Charles, William, and Little One, in that order.

I think its safe to assume that the Queen is immortal.

I can't see anyone after the current Queen having the same kind of gravitas, though. Dump 'em, I say. This poor kid would be better off.

Why do they call her Kate Middleton? Isn't she Princess Katherine?

She's the Duchess of Cambridge for now, I believe - once Charles is king, William will become Prince of Wales and then she will have the title of "Princess Catherine", which will supercede her current lowly postition.

I hope for this kid's sake it ends up with Kate's looks or that Princess Diana has strong genes.

William is Prince William and she is the Duchess of Cambridge. I'll never understand the logic.

Her full title and style is Her Royal Highness Princess William, Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn, Baroness Carrickfergus.

I would assume that should William become King she will become Queen, as in Queen consort, the title wives of male British monarchs - including the late Queen Mum - have always had. It is different for the male spouse of a female British monarch (e.g. Prince Philip).

But when Diana married Charles, she officially gained the princess title. Why doesn't Kate earn the same? Is it because William is second in line?
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

William's also the Duke of Cambridge. Once they move up one rung on the ladder, I think she will be referred to as Princess Catherine, then eventually Queen Catherine.
Will Camilla ever be Queen Camillia, though?

Diana was never officially Princess Diana.
During her marriage, she was Her Royal Highness The Princess Charles Philip Arthur George, Princess of Wales and Countess of Chester, Duchess of Cornwall, Duchess of Rothesay, Countess of Carrick, Baroness of Renfrew, Lady of the Isles, Princess of Scotland.

Just of curiosity, JerseyGirl2 - do the Swedish royal family get the same amount of attention in the press where you are? They had their own little bundle of joy this year, if I recall correctly.
