My favorite thing of the night was Nuvo Bling. Hilarious! The wine thing was funny too.
What was up with that transphobic fake movie trailer? No one thought that was a bad idea?
I can't wait for 1MM to go off though. First, they said VAGINA and it kept getting dirtier and dirtier.

What a great show. I love Timberlake. Whether it's music, drama, or comedy he has charisma to spare.
He's one of the finest all around entertainers around these days.

Posted: 3/10/13 at 12:09pmThat movie trailer (to me) wasn't trasnphobic and wasn't even about transsexuals at all. I just took it as a her being a hermaphrodite. They didn't make any jokes about her being masculine in any way or any stereotypic "male" attributes. Just a girl with a d*ck. It wasn't even all that funny, but I didn't see it as making fun of transsexuals at all.

I might be blowing this out of proportion and I'll admit it if I am.
Here's the thing: I used to have a transsexual MTF roommate. Her name is Astrid and I honestly had no idea she was born a man. I only found out when I checked the mailbox and the envelope said Greg. She's gorgeous and curvy and the best damn cook I've ever had the pleasure of living with. Anyway, point is, nothing about her was manly.
I also worked with another MTF who, unfortunately, has a very masculine jawline and no makeup in the world can hide his stubble. Besides that, she's a female.
I might be the only one who found it offensive. It wasn't funny. It wasn't written well. I can't believe JT admitted to having sex with a dick.

Posted: 3/10/13 at 1:46pmJungle Red, I get what you're saying. I did kind of raise any eyebrow at it. I do think that Jordan's right and that its aim wasn't to mock transgender people, but the whole trailer kind of fell flat.

Posted: 3/10/13 at 1:50pmI actually watched it live last night after watching it on Hulu or Tivo. I couldn't believe the amount of commercials! Skit. Commercial. Skit. Commercial. Weird shot of the stage. Commercial. Is the show really that expensive to produce?

Posted: 3/10/13 at 2:54pmShow costs about 2 mil per episode.

There are a LOT of people involved behind the scenes to put on a live 90 minute TV program! Don't know if you have ever sat in on a show but it is pretty amazing. The sketches are chosen on Wednesday night and the entire show is built in two days, Sets, costumes, props etc. Sometimes my shop works for 72 hours straight. It can get VERY expensive.
Remember too that all the pretaped parody commercials are filmed in those three days as well. It is an incredible amount of work!

I understand how the show works but if one of the best skits was that awful dick trailer, then what else was there?
I also wasn't too impressed with "Veganville".

You weren't but the show's demographics were. It is a signature piece. SNL has been enjoying incredible ratings these past couple years. I didn't like the Girl with a Dick trailer either however sometimes things get put in due to politics. As bad as it was, the production values were impeccable.
Though a recorded piece like that is often used to give the cast and crew some breathing room. With a host like Timberlake who is both musical and guest host, it is a 90 minute marathon. He is grabbed and ran from one changing station to another where he is stripped, made up and redressed by a pit crew. Getting an extra 2 minutes is a God send for all involved.

He was fantastic. I just found problems with the writing. The Caligula one wasn't funny either.
And yes, his tofu costume rocked.

Posted: 3/10/13 at 6:39pmIt was a great show, though I'd recommend that when Dan Pardo is unable to do the credits they just have someone else do them in a normal voice and not in a creepy Don Pardo impersonation.

Posted: 3/10/13 at 9:56pmThey couldn't post the Cold opening due to the rights for the Elton John song Candle in the Wind. They could parody it on the show but are not legally allowed to repost it without paying an enormous royalty.

I didn't see the girl with a di*# part because my 9 year old came into the room and I didn't think it would be appropriate. Was it funny? Because I still have it on the DVR.
