They are saying this isn't a surprise, but it certainly came as one to me.
I actually didn't even know they were still airing new episodes.
But I'm sorry, it's really upsetting when they cancel a show you enjoy.

It certainly had a longer run than the Heather Graham sitcom.
"The West Wing" announcement wasn't much of a surprise. Although this season's story line with a presidential campaign involving a Democrat played by Jimmy Smits and Republican portrayed by Alan Alda has been strong critically, ratings have sunk with its move to Sunday nights.
The decision to cancel it was made before actor John Spencer, who played former presidential chief of staff Leo McGarry, died of a heart attack Dec. 16, said Kevin Reilly, NBC entertainment president.
"There's a point when you look at the ratings and say, it feels like it's time," Reilly said.
The series finale will be May 14, preceded by a one-hour retrospective. The campaign to replace the fictional Josiah Bartlet as president will be settled, NBC said."

As much as I love the show, it was time...
Go ahead and ruin my week end. Now I can blow up my TV.
It's actually perfect timing. I will truly miss it, though.
I kid you not but I have never watched it

Ever since they switched to Sundays it's been hard for me to get into it. I am sad - I really loved this show. I was hoping it would last at least a couple more years to reflect the changes that happen when a new term comes to power, but oh well.

I'm sad about this, but at the same time it really is time. I think to have it continue with another president would have just been a joke.
Now I just hope that they'll come to their senses with Gilmore Girls and end it, too! That show jumped the shark last year, and yet I still feel compelled to watch out of some twisted sort of loyalty!
Mr Roxy, you never watched West Wing, a show with a liberal president? Wow imagine my shock!
i pretty much quit watching when sorkin left. but really, where was there left for the show to go? a new presidencey in which all of the main characters were still a part? or would they have scrapped everyone and started fresh with a new cast of characters? at least this will free up some very talented actors to move on to new projects.
Off to watch the first four seasons of West Wing on DVD.

According to an article by David Bauder of the AP, "The West Wing" won four Emmy Awards for best television drama in a row for its tales of political intrigue. At its prime, it also offered NBC two valuable benefits: critical acclaim and the most upscale audience on television, an important drawing point for advertisers.

Given that the new president would probably have been the Republican played by Alan Alda, the cancellation is part of the monsterous liberal media bias.
It's also now official that Will & Grace will also end.

And with it goes the hopes for gay and lesbian equality.
given the inherent gayosity of the show, the cancellation is obviously part of the monsterous crackdown on civil liberties by the bush administration's fcc who surely pressured the network into this decision in a clear and odious example of censorship.
I really like this show, but I think it really is time for it to go.

I don't really think Will and Grace ending is some conservative conspiracy. It's not very funny any more. It's another one that has reached it's time.

When they came for Will and Grace I said nothing, because I was neither Will nor Grace....
