DD - That's awesome! They are putting a production on at a local theater here in NJ, but I didn't get a chance to get tickets.
I'd help you pack if I could. I actually LOVE packing, it's actually moving and unpacking I hate.
HOLIDAY INN has a blackface number that makes me cringe.
MT, you saw WHITE CHRISTMAS for the FIRST time last year? I have seen that movie over 50 times. (I'm not exaggerating.)
I've only seen one once, and I think it was Holiday Inn. The one with Rosemary Clooney.
MT - The 5th Avenue's production is getting raves. We got $20 tickets, which is even better.
I know, I was a disadvantaged youth!! I grew up on the B&W Scrooge, Grinch, Charlie Brown Christmas. My dad wasn't into the other ones. But I am very glad that hubby made me watch them last year, I loved it!
Holiday Inn?? really? interesting, I never knew that.
Has anyone seen The Holiday? I want to see that movie.
DD, I want to know what you thought of WHITE CHRISTMAS on stage. I was thinking about that while watching the movie last night.
I haven't yet L, but I really want to! I love Kate Winslet (and looking at Jude doesn't hurt either)!
Pic from the 5th's production:
I've heard the musical numbers are just awesome. I truly had no desire to see it, but everyone's buzzing about it.
Holiday Inn (B&W, made in the '40s) has a salute to Lincoln's birthday... in blackface.
Ugh.
"Abraham!!!!"
I do like the film overall though. Great original songs by Berlin, and Fred & Bing are excellent.
White Christmas is in color, made in the '50s, starring Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Danny Kaye and Vera Ellen. One of my favorites. They do a "minstrel number" in that film too, but NOT in blackface.
That looks sensational, DD!!! I am dying to see a production at the 5th!!!!
The movie you saw, BTW, was, in fact, WHITE CHRISTMAS. Rosemary Clooney is really beautiful in it.
Twelvy!
See, I thought that was the one I had seen, but someone told me this weekend that if it was with Rosemary Clooney it was Holiday Inn. I'm glad you cleared that up.
No, that was NOT Rosemary Clooney. That's Marjorie Reynolds. My father LOVED her!
Is it bad that I have never heard of any of these movies?
DD!
No, the gals in "Holiday Inn" are Virginia Dale and Marjorie Reynolds. Both are great! The guys are Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire.
Fred was supposed to do "White Christmas" as well, but pulled out at the last minute (I can't remember why) and was replaced with Danny Kaye, who is wonderful.
Trivia (that you probably know): The actual chain known as "Holiday Inn" was named after the film!
OK, I am very excited! I know it is very silly, but I have this HUGE desire to see TARZAN. I finally purchased my tickets!!!! You can laugh at me if you want, but I am sooo excited!
Wow. I had no idea about Holiday Inn. You learn something every day. Wow.
Miss P: have you ever been to the 5th? It is one of the most beautiful theaters I've ever seen.
I searched everywhere for Holiday Inn on DVD for Chris last Christmas. It was hell, I finally found it as a double feature DVD (Going My Way & Holiday Inn) on-line. Every store I've been in so far this year has it now!! That's life I guess!
After Fred Astaire pulled out, they signed Donald O'Connor. Danny Kaye was actually third choice. You see, everything in the universe really does work itself out! If Fred had made it, it would have been another "Holiday Inn." I can't even imagine Donald in Danny's role. I truly think the world of Donald O'Connor, but to me Danny Kaye is the most underrated (*wink*) musical actor of all time. I ADORE that man!!!
DD, did you get COURT JESTER yet???
Tink, I love Tarzan, I have seen it many times.
Court Jester is at home! Will prolly see it tonight.
Dang, White Christmas won't be on tv until the 26th on TCM. I checked AMC and it's not playing there at all.
How about you come over and pack for me tonight, DD? Since you like it so much and all!
DD, when you're here, we can have it on in the background.
Yeah, I don't feel so completely silly now! I got tickets for a Sunday night performance. I know Sunday matinée usually has a lot of understudies in it, so I got evening. Do you think thats safe? I also got center orch Row E? Are those good seats?
L, you know that if I could, I would so be there. I really do like to pack... especially because it's a great time to get rid of stuff. So that's the catch... I pack, but I also toss. And I'm VERY meticulous packing dishes and stuff.
It's a deal, Ms. P.
