I don't even know why I try with you. You will just never get it.
"And I don't know whether or how much it is related to being gay, or whether it is just a difference of having a balanced and mature personality."

Best thread ever.

Strange that this thread is so threatening to you.
I don't get any sense of that behavior from DG, Calvin, cturtle, glebb or a lot of other people on here who are openly gay.
Nom--how can someone be openly gay on an anonymous web site?
Threatening to ME? Whatever. You are the one who seems threatened...by OUTING. Why is that?
Am I a Good Gay--like DG, Calvin, CTurtle and Glebb--or a Bad Gay--like Sueleen and Namo?
Or am not a Gay at all--am I just Dorothy Gale from Kansas?
and your little dog too
How about you, SOMMS? Are you a Good Gay or a Bad Gay?

Actually, you've brought up the self-hatred issue yourself, Sueleen.
Is it older gay men who have more problem with that than the younger ones as cultural situations have changed over the years?
One of my favorite hairdressers, an older guy in a lonterm relationship, used to ask my advice about his love life. And I told him, well, I'm not gay so I don't think I can see things from the same point of view, or knowledgeable enough about it to give you advice. And he responded that the relationships were just the same as heterosexual so it didn't matter, it was the same. And I thought that was a very open way of welcoming my input.
His partner was cheating on him and I told him I thought it was risky and no good for him what the partner was doing. And I think he was right that the sexual orientation didn't make a difference.
I think self-hatred may be related to the edgy hositility and why some gay men out other gay men, and even why some lash out on BWW.

midtowngym, some on here choose not to be anonymous.
And it is possible to have layers of anonymity.
It is their choice and I think it is to be respected.
It is nice that you let him do your hair.
I am done now. I will be a good gay from now on. I won't ruffle your straight little feathers anymore, nom. Sorry.

I do feel like some of the gay folk on here are not friendly and are always looking for "slights" against gays beyond the point of being realistic. Just looking for excuses to lash out. It's annoying because it's hostile.
I guess it's all a matter of perspective, because I often find the gay voice either dismissed or disdained on here, so perhaps that's part of the reason you percieve unfriendlieness.
I'm not gay at all PJ. Did you just try to out me?

My hairdresser was an artist, Sueleen. He had studied art and anatomy in Boston and was planning to become a surgeon when his parent died, forcing him to open a business to support his younger siblings. I had great respect for him and his talent.
Good gay, bad gay...
I'm the less filling/tastes great gay.
"And I told him, well, I'm not gay so I don't think I can see things from the same point of view, or knowledgeable enough about it to give you advice."
I was just sitting back lurking on this thread, but I have to address that statement. I have never, once in my life, EVER, considered there to be a difference. I discuss my love life with straight friends and viceversa, and we give each other advice, input, whatever.
Your statement there proves what everyone has been saying. Gay is DIFFERENT with a CAPITAL D to you.

It's really important at times like this to try to fly up high and get a wider view, sort of looking down from 40,000 feet.
Try to remember that it was nomdeplume who wouldn't even admit to being a WOMAN! It was a big guarded secret.

First, Rathnait, I was cautious not to offer advice on a subject I did not know much about until welcomed to do so.
And second, I can and always have transgendered on this website with the click of a settings button, and have played roles of both sexes and even a lesbian onstage, so it seems like others here are more fixated and less observant than they could be.
And on BWW I claim heterosexuality and no gender. Big deal.

"so it seems like others here are more fixated and less observant than they could be"
or more to the point - we just don't care enough about you to make the effort.
What subject? Relationships?
Why do you think gay relationships are different from straight ones? Why can you not relate to gay people on a human level?
"I am not a lesbian, but I played one on TV."
Are you for real? You are just fncking with us now, aren't you?
"And second, I can and always have transgendered on this website with the click of a settings button, and have played roles of both sexes and even a lesbian onstage, so it seems like others here are more fixated and less observant than they could be."
Are you Pat Carroll?! I loved your guest spot on Designing Women!
What does playing a lesbian onstage have to do with ANYTHING? I've NEVER played a gay role. Does that make me LESS able to relate to gays?
Somehow, I'm guessing not.
Wow, nom....
You have actually succeeded in uniting Rathnait with Sueleen and Namo.
You ARE a bridge-builder!

Okay, who besides me wants to tackle how incredibly offensive THAT is?
