hartford says no.
yale says no.
i love college applications!! WOOHOO are they fun!
anyone else having fun with rejection letters? i've found that yales was INCREDIBLY kind...while hartford's was really icky.
This is the first week that I start anticipating rejection letters.
Thanks for giving me a nosebleed.
Yale?? Pft, who wants to go there? The worst rejectioon letter I got was from AMDA...it made me feel like crap cause all I ever heard was "they take ANYONE who walks in!" blah
Hopefully the letter I get from Marymount *won't* be a rejection...
that's sucky....
I'm sorry...I went on 4 college visits in two days...does that make you feel better?
Got rejected from UCLA and USC. oh yea, so much fun.
I didn't get any rejections, but that's really just because I'm a wimp and avoided them by not applying to the schools I'd have been on the cusp for. I feel you pain though guys. Waiting for acceptance letters (and then the dreaded financial aid packages!) is a real bitch!

I just have to share, from the other side of things. I work in the admissions office at my college, and I get phone calls, and sometimes in order to deal with it, I need to pull up their decisions so I can see them, but I can't tell people their decisions. When someone calls and is rejected, and I'm talking to them, pretending I don't know, it's really hard. It's not like the colleges like turning you down. It's horrible filing those folders.
You'll get in somewhere and totally love it though. And if not, you can always transfer 'come second year.
ETA: I'm sure that probably doesn't make you feel better. Trust me, I know the feeling. But you'll get in some place cool and love it, and if not, you can always transfer. In the meantime, I advocate bitching and moaning.

wow, it actually makes me feel better to hear an admissions person's point of view. it's nice to knwo you guys are real people!! jk jk
i'm actually a little happier today, i got wait listed @ NYU for CAP 21!!! yay tisch!! which is really surprising, b/c my audition was horrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible!! and i know, i probably won't end up getting ot go to NYU, but still. it's nice to know that my audition wasn't completely in vain.
so, hopefully all you guys will get acceptance letters as well.
i just want one more place to accept me OR a place to open up @ tisch so i don't end up going to AMDA....even though i'm happy i got a pretty good scholarship from them (considering how few they give out), i don't really want to go there....
can I ask why you don't want to go to AMDA...?
I was rejected from Columbia back in my college days, even though I had a 3.8 GPA.

Congrats!
And for the record, I make no decisions or anything. Just file things and take phone calls. Advice for being on the wait list: (Although I don't know the policy for specific schools, I know we consider it) send in extra things that you think will help. A letter of recommendation, other awards, etc. Don't send too much, but if there's something substantial you didn't send the first time, they make take a second look at your file and that can effect your admissions decision.
Good luck!

But MEF--you ended up at an awesome school, am I wrong???

MEF, I know from watching my high school class' experience that Columbia admissions sometimes have no rhyme or reason. It's the same with any really elite college- they have such a large pool to choose from that if they let in 250 kids, they probably could let in the next 250 instead and probably have a class that's just as good. At a certain point, it's whim as much as merit that gets you in.
I would say only one real reason should keep you from going to AMDA unless you follow through: you don't leave there with a degree and too many kids feel they're done with school then.
The one plus AMDA offers is the option to transfer to the New School to finish your bachelor degree.
Go to COLLEGE. Get a degree.
I was accepted to some fairly decent schools in undergrad (and even better ones in grad school) but ended up going to state universities for both a BA and an MFA. I am very glad I did and I feel I got great education.
I mean, one lady in my English department in undergrad is a HUGE scholar and now teaches at Cambridge. So quality abounds everywhere...

BWS - I belive that a well rounded education can be beneficial.
I wish all of you kids luck. I wish that I had BWW when I was in high school.
Jess--You know it! I probably would've ended up there even if I was accepted to Columbia.
Plum--I have heard that from a lot of people.

I posted this on the CMU tips post on the main board and I'll post it here as well:
I got my rejection letter from NYU today. Luckily, I had a fairly good day so I wasn't completely crushed. Plus, it was my third choice--so I'm good.
I got "waitlisted" at CU, which I'm pretty sure is a nice way of saying that I didn't meet their foo-foo, elitist standards.
Of course, considering all the s**t that's gone down there in the last two years, I'm glad I didn't go there!
My cousin had over a 4.0 GPA at a challenging private school, played 4 years of varsity sports, had good scores, and was just generally well-rounded. She was waitlisted by Notre Dame, but went to Villanova on a full scholarship. It's just that one school valued her skills more than another.
Admissions are different for different schools.
They weigh things in very different ways.
Don't get discouraged.
today i got rejected from nyu. I am not surprised though. ANywho i got into my school of choice, simmons!! :)

That's right!

Actually, in a lot of places "wait listed" just means they didn't have enough space, but your qualified to attend. At my school (which is also MEF's alma mater--thus the random comments), we had to wait-list tons of qualified students this year just due to lack of space. I was looking at their applications and they have the same counselor-assigned "scores" as people who did get in, but for some reason, they were placed on the wait list. This could have to do with tons of factors, including geographic location, etc. So "wait list" definitely doesn't mean "rejected." (Though I can't speak for all schools.)
ETA: Congratulations Zippyjen!
thanks jess! i am so excited even though i found out in november lol!!
Jess: I dunno about that. I had a 3.2 GPA and didn't take the SATs (but I did take the ACTs). Of course, CU is a very popular school, so you could still be right. Meh, it's moot now.
