Again, this is provided by Caesers to help them convince the community to let them build without providing how they came to any of those numbers. It also hinges on the fact that they believe what is keeping that money out of Times Square right now is a lack of a casino. People are going to come to Times Square because they want to. They don't need a casino to coerce them. Every community in the country has a casino within spitting distance, you're not luring them to NYC with a promise of one casino.

The fact that you even have to ask this question makes it obvious that you don’t live in NYC (and 50/50 that you ever even visited here).

Does anyone want to go to Times Square for anything other than theatre/concerts in the Panasonic (or whatever it’s called now), a few photos, accommodation, or work? It’s horrid almost everywhere you look. A casino will bring people who aren’t interested in the things above into the vicinity and have them spending money in the blocks surrounding, and for longer than the things above take to do/experience. Plus it will have people in and out through the day and evening. A constant stream of money into nearby businesses.

It is literally the most foot trafficked tourist attraction in the country. Third in the world. $5B in Annual revenue. They're claiming that they will up that by 50% annually just with the surrounding businesses according to their proposal. What are you even talking about? This isn't a rural upstate town you're trying to generate business for...

Sure it is. But what’s the average time period a non-theatregoing tourist spends in Times Square? Take some photos, eat some lunch, and onto the next thing like Liberty Island or Central Park. And even then, I think a lot of folks just walk through to say they did it. I don’t think it’s an all day thing for most people. Tourists share their itineraries on various NYC travel groups that get suggested to me on Facebook. Each day has half a dozen locations that they hit/things they do. No way TS takes up a half day unless they’re seeing a matinee as well as eating lunch.
A casino will absolutely have people in the area for longer stretches. Go to Dallas BBQ for lunch, then to the casino, then to Applebee’s for dinner, then Chicago/Mormon/Aladdin. With incidental spending throughout.

We need to cut the **** about the community business impact. That is NEVER a Casino's intention, they do not ever want you to leave property so trust and believe anything you could want outside the casino they will offer within the casino. That is the business model of a casino. They want your money, all of your money. They don't want to share.

Times Square already makes up 15% of the city's entire revenue despite being the size of a postage stamp.

^ I know they want you to stay. I’ve worked in them, but not in this country. The system is of course the same. But there are always ALWAYS people who can’t stand staying in the same building for a long period of time. It’s a biological urge to get fresh air and just be away from the place you’ve just spent three hours inside of. Those are the people who will leave the building to eat, and come back later. Always always happens.
They’ll keep who they can inside, yes, and give meal vouchers out, but despite that there will always be people who say “I gotta get out of here” or “I just want to try somewhere else today”.

Okay, so now you're saying the people who peel off and go outside (again, who you and they claim would not be in the area if not for the casino) are going to generate a 50% revenue increase for the area? Those are their numbers, citing their $26B over 10 years figure which averages out to $2.6B a year. Does that make realistic sense to you? A single business? And you think a single casino is going to bring people to Broadway as opposed to Broadway bringing people to the casino? Who is really benefiting from Broadway here? "We've got time to kill between the matinee and evening show."

There has been very spotty reporting on this upcoming deal. For instance, what percentage of estimated revenues will go to NY State and City taxes? Will the proposed gambling casinos be beneficiaries of the NY State tax credit for "digital gambling" perhaps embedded in gambling consoles? That already claws back much of the tax revenues that could go to the state of New York.

I think it would be pretty easy to make the case that this would cause direct harm to many people, and would therefore count as a compelling reason to prevent such a project. I can't imagine that there would be anything nearly so compelling to stop the building of a casino in a 21st-century Times Square already overflowing with dispensaries and Mario furries and any number of overpriced tourist traps (all of which, like the casino, I'd never patronize but am not bothered by their existence).

Anyhow, I of course respect your right to oppose the project and hope we can agree to disagree on this matter.

1. Save the Theater
According to some in the Broadway crowd, the mere presence of a casino could cause theatergoers to spontaneously combust. They fear that adding a few poker tables nearby might cause ticket sales to vanish into thin air — as if someone heading to “Hamilton” will suddenly cancel and sprint to play craps instead. Because apparently, humans can’t enjoy both Sondheim and slot machines.

2. Quality of Life Meltdown Incoming
Let’s not forget the classic doomsday trifecta: crime, traffic, noise! Times Square — a place already bursting with neon, crowds, and honking horns — will allegedly become too much if a casino opens. Because, you know, that will be the straw that breaks the already gridlocked camel’s back.

3. Economic Catastrophe... Despite All Evidence to the Contrary
Sure, Times Square already thrives on tourism, but some experts argue that adding a major new attraction that brings in more tourists might... somehow hurt it? Small businesses could be “disrupted,” apparently, by customers having even more reasons to visit the neighborhood. It’s unclear how more foot traffic equals fewer sales.
