Like several others, I saw the show again this weekend as well. If you saw it earlier in previews, you will notice a few cosmetic changes, but also minor plot points like Timothy Price gone missing following the Tunnel sequence cut. No more off hand lines about the pet shop calling about rats, but one touch I missed were the reindeer antlers at the Christmas party, which added such a great Rothschild Illuminati vibe to that scene.
That Hamptons sequence which I thought stopped Act 2 to a screeching halt, flows so much better now and is a great moment of humor before the show really gets real dark and doesn't look back. I was sitting in the mezzanine, and couldn't tell if there were still spurts of blood used during "Killing Spree;" but wasn't there a chainsaw sound effect used to end the number initially too? I remember the moment being a bit more exhilarating, but perhaps that was because I was sitting in the front orchestra when I first saw it. Still love the sequence, and am worried about what that says about me as a person ...
I hope there is a Broadway cast album, this London recording is not cutting it right now!
Saw the show last night, I really can't recommend it enough. I loved every minute of it. Can I just say, the entire cast should just be nominated for a tony. WOW, they are really amazing. Besides Ben and Jenn other amazing standouts for me were Morgan Weed, Helene York and Theo Stockman. All three were hilarious. I really hope Helene gets nominated, same with Morgan but her role is probably to small. The music is very catchy IMO and very techno and cool. Duncan Sheik added a lot of final bumps to the end of songs. The sets, lighting and projections were some of my favorite of the recent shows I've seen. I will definitely remember some of theses cues for weeks and months to come! One not bad but kinda annoying thing was I felt like the scene in act 2 after I am Back and A Girl Before, with Patrick and Jean... the scene goes kinda slow and its not like the rest of the show. didn't love that but didn't hate it. I really really hope this finds an audience, the show is too good not to! and look was Alice Ripley underused.... YES but she worked well in the show and seemed to live doing it, so theres no real problem. also, the whole opening really blew my mind with all the effects. the ending was really great too, the way everyone moved in SLO-MO it really worked and was very very cool
I really hope Ben gets nominated (and even wins) for leading actor, and Helene for featured. And if Hamilton wasn't on this year, AP would win hands down.
Overall guys, you should really see this show, honestly I liked it more then Hamilton. It was an unforgettable night out!!! Looking forward to seeing it again (hopefully soon!!)
side note, there was a lot of theatre people in the audience including William Ivey Long!(i think... i saw him outside so i'm assuming) it was definitely a New york theatre crowd.
I am not a fan of the movie so I was surprised what a thrillingly satsifying musical it almost made! 90% of what is on stage is new, innovative, beautfully staged new musical. I am almost always amazed that mediocre movies (American Psycho, Honeymoon in Vegas) make better musicals than blockbusters like Rocky, 9 to 5, Color Purple, Ghost. You can't improve on perfection but you can improve on mediocrity. I urge everyone to see American Psycho for the near perfect collaboration between sets, video, music, choreography staging and acting.
I say 90% because, 15-20 minutes before the end, the show seems to overstay its welcome, gets slow and tedious and the conclusion unsatisfying. The tedium starts with a love song sung by Jenn Damiano expressing her love for the Patrick Batemen character and the song slows down the show and never quite recovers. Not Damiano's fault--she gives a a convincing perfomance as does the entire cast. It's the song. Then the ending is totally unsatisfying almost negating all of the thrilling chilling stuff that precedes it
It's too bad they couldn't fix the last fifteen minutes because what precedes it is quite spectacular.
Every time this show releases new promo material, I just get more and more excited. It looks so amazing. Wish the Late Show performance had been able to showcase the lighting design, because it look fantastic in the preview video!
For the ones not liking the ending is it the same ending as the movie and the book where his killings remain ambiguous. I mean the novel is far more ambiguous since you entirely placed withing the mind of a sociopath losing his grip on reality but that's also there in the movie to a slightly lesser degree.
goldenboy, I agree with everything you have to say about the last 15-20 mins of the show. Personally I really love Jenn's song "A Girl Before" but after she ends it, the show is really slow with not much going on. It really is a shame, the rest of the show is literally perfect. Still if anyone is questioning on seeing it, see it. You will be happy!
Quick question. When "Hip to be Square" is played is it just the recording of "Huey Lewis and the News" or someone singing it offstage? I heard someone saying that it was being sung off stage but i found it hard to believe since it sounded exactly like the recording of the song.

The Playbill credits it as being performed by Huey Lewis and the News, whereas the other 80s songs just list the writing and licensing credits.
