Orange, we don't really know that Justin would have sucked, do we? Did his movie ever come out? 442namffug, I can name a dozen musicals that are "good quality" on Broadway. And my opinion can not be swayed by box office reports (which mean nothing) or your pessimistic opinion.
I actually applaud this man for putting a stop to any possible CRAP that anyone would try to produce because they can get him to star. This is the problem with theatre today. It's no longer art because everyone takes and makes jobs just to "get money". If anything of quality was produced (like those Off-Broadway and other productions produced around the country), more audiences would appreciate it and would much rather spend money and time.
I certainly thought Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was an enjoyable show. And Light in the Piazza.
I'm not gonna pretend there is TONS of great stuff on Broadway right now, but as previously mentioned...Menzel found herself an Off-Broadway show. And she is certainly far from your typical Broadway voice much like Pascal is. The difference is she actually can act.
But I enjoy that he thinks he can go off and do film when his only redeeming quality is his singing and his acting skills are--well--they leave an AWFL lot to be desired.
442, Nobody's dying for Pascal to star in their show. He never gets good reviews, does he? Maybe one from Cabaret? He's no Kristin Chenoweth, who at least has a track record with reviews. Updated On: 9/4/05 at 07:16 PM
Ruprecht..right now..in the next 5 minutes..tell me 5 (of the many) musicals that have RECENTLY opened and are STILL playing on Broadway that are of ANY good quality. I can guarantee you cannot do it, unless you are blatenly lying out of your ass.
Of the original cast members, Idina will benefit from the Rent film more than anyone, IMHO. Possibly Anthony as well, although he doesn't have such a marketable look. And Adam? He might get a record deal out of it, but he's hardly going to become a movie star.
ZONEACE, Who said he's unemployed? Just because he's not currently on a Broadway stage doesn't mean he doesn't have another possibility for income. Unless you're his accountant, you can't make a statement like that.
And yes, I would rather look to other options than be in a show like Lennon. Why commit to a show you don't believe is going to stay open very long and leave you unemployed anyway when you could look for other work now?
ruprecht, have you seen Justin Timberlake act? Why are you allowed to judge Adam's acting, but I'm not allowed to comment on Justin's?

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Spamalot The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee The Light in the Piazza
Taht's just last season. NOt bad. I can name 8 or 9 more older ones that are quality. And don't bother telling me why YOU don't agree they're quality. It's beside the point. Adam Pascal should be lucky enough to star in any of them.
While there are some good shows coming around, most definitely are not appropriate for his voice and all-around style. The stuff that would be fitting for him has generally been complete crap.
The options just are not there for him right now. Hopefully he has better luck in film.

Ok Ruprecht...first of all, you named 4...and...OH!!!!..what a surprise!!! You copy and pasted the list of nominated shows for best musical from the Tony Awards site!! How creative!!!! And it's not that I don't "agree" that all of the shows on Broadway right now are ****...I KNOW...as do we ALL that right now, Broadway SUCKS and I am so ashamed that an art form that needs so much help is digging it's own grave.
442, you are a nasty, bitter piece of work. I didn't copy/paste anything. Honestly, I would have included Little Women but you asked me to list shows still open. (And don't even bother telling me how much that show sucked cause I DON'T CARE about your opinion.)
Why would you list Little Women??? It's closed because it's not good, it's not original, and it's NOT creative!!! I'm not saying that theatre or film has to be MIND BOGGLING or AMAAAAZZZINNGGGG or FANTASTIC or LIFE CHANGING or anything...but there are so many untold stories out there...why would anyone want to sit through Julia Murney singing a song by John Lennon for 2 hours?? Adam Pascal is 100% correct and orangeskittles and colleen lee seem to be the only posters on here who have ANY clue or ANY taste whatsoever. Case closed. Ruprecht...you have SERIOUSLY ruined your chances at being and intelligent or artistic person. Bye bye
BroadwayGirl, Aida was more original than ASU or Lennon. At least Elton John and Tim Rice bothered to come up with new songs for an old storyline.
Even though there are crappy movies being made, at least there's more of a variety available than there are musicals. Hundreds of movies came out last year and only about 15 musicals did.

I can't wait for him to be broke because no one wants him in movies.
So, Aida isn't an a ting role, oh is that why you sucked in it?
JK I actually liked him in aida.
"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view - until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."
To Kill A Mockingbird
This is ridiculous. His comments can make him look stupid, but he isn't stupid. He's RIGHT. Yes, that's a harsh thing to say, especially to the New York Times, but he isn't wrong. The way he says things sometimes make him look like he isn't thinking, but there's a different between blatant stupidity and just not being able to know when to shut your mouth - the latter of which Adam is guilty, sometimes.
His comment reads two-fold. A lot of the theatre is crap. And a lot of the theatre that has music that would be suitable to his voice is crap. The good stuff, things like Piazza, etc - those aren't for him. It's a statement about his style, and a statement about the state of theatre. Trust me, I don't think Adam is someone who thinks he's far too equipped to be making scholarly statements on the state of American musical theatre. It's not as nasty of a comment as people are thinking it is.
Ruprecht's defenses about Adam's reviews are going to fold fast. He wasn't reviewed for Cabaret. He got decent reviews for RENT and mixed ones for AIDA (some negative, though.) What have you go, two? That's really something to call a "track record." HE isn't very young, but his career is not huge yet. And as a musician before anything else, his career isn't dependent on people running after him with theatre offers. And even if he's not the best actor, if you've watched anything of his career, I dare you to deny that he hasn't at least improved. I've seen him act his ass off. Comparing him to Justin Timberlake is one of the biggest insults I've ever seen anyone use against him. Excuse me whilst I vomit.
I can't sit here and watch people say he's a jerk because he's honest. You all KNOW that even though film is no more original than theatre, there's a far wider range of things that end up on film than end up on a Broadway stage. Use your heads and stop throwing stones. You all know I'd fight to the death for him.
orangeskittles, 442namffug said "Don't eve TRY Spamalot." But, if you think about it, it as equally as original and creative as Aida was, is it not?
I mean, a new score was written. At least it didn't sound like everything else Elton John's ever written. And it was a Disney-fied version of an opera. Aida is NO MORE original than Spamalot is. Updated On: 9/4/05 at 07:33 PM
