I remember really liking this play when it debuted way back in 2014 at Here Arts Center. I wonder who will play the father- it was Reed Birney then, and it was his one-two punch of that and Casa Valentina that helped garner a wider appreciation for his work.

Excited to give Clare Barron another shot. I missed “Dance Nation” a few years back and her more recent “Shhhhh” really missed the mark for me.

Love Alia Shawcat as well.

I know I saw this in its original run, but I can’t remember a single thing about it other than that it was surprisingly raunchy and that Reed Birney was on an absolute tear Off-Broadway at that time. I didn’t even remember William Jackson Harper was in it, or that it was directed by Anne Kauffman.

It's pretty crazy how this is selling just in pre-sale especially at these prices. While tickets do start at $59 there don't seem to have been any of those left an hour into pre-sale. For reference, here are the prices.

there were only a hadnful of $59 in the back for each preview

but yes the A24 brand is strong

WOW!  That's quite supportive/validating!  I would think the producers would be happy enough to keep selling out off-bway, and extending,  esp at the tix prices they have now.

I thought this was mostly wonderful. I don’t know if it’s five-star-rave-worthy, but it was definitely strong. The performances are all very impressive. Peter Friedman, specifically, was absolutely heartbreaking. The audience last night was awful though - phones going off, phones dropping, people getting up mid-scene and disrupting entire rows, etc.

I don’t think it would work in a bigger space, frankly. A huge part of what makes the production special is its intimacy. Quibbles about the writing aside, it’s absolutely worth seeing if you can.

this would be great for Second Stage to remount at the Hayes or if it went to the Booth

The audience when I went was surprisingly young, attractive, and seemingly not experienced theatre goers. I think the A24-ification of their aesthetics and West Village location are making Cherry Lane kind of hip with a TikTok crowd.

(not a huge deal though, my crowd was mostly fine and I loved the play)
