I think it's absolutely an act. I mean, I get all the "she's crazy, she's crazy" talk, but she knows EXACTLY what she's doing. Entertaining fans, and selling tickets. I love her. I think she's stupendous, and talented as hell.
The Overture is part of the show, people. Please shut your pie hole.
I love Next to Normal. I love Alice Ripley. I love her singing style....
The woman deffinetly has a screw loose though. I think it is very nice how she spends time will all her fans and talks ( I remember one night I was waiting at Blithe Spirits stage door, and at 1140 we were told Angela and everyone else already went home. So I walked by Next to Normals stage door and I saw Alice chatting it up still with 5 or so fans, Which I admired)
But there is something wrong with this woman.
I dont know how many of you have her on facebook but if you do I hope you remember the whole "Alice Ripley is not a BOY" thing...
Since everyone requests Alice to be their mother, sister, etc some lady accidently hit the "Brother" or husband or something and Alice got infuriated even calling out the woman saying that she "Would never get a sex change for anyone, ecspecially some fan she just met at the stage door" and that she would be out of a job if she did something stupid like that for a stranger..etc... All of Ripleys fans also began bad mouthing the lady even after she kindly apologized for the accident.

LOL. Yes that is CRAZY.
Has anyone talked to her at the stage door though? I think we could probably gather in only a couple of minutes if she is really crazy or not.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
saveusmike , I know what you're talking about, but that's not how I remember that at all. I remember her post being another tongue-in-cheek sort of thing. I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, but I got the impression she was just being silly. I really don't think she was "infuriated". Just my opinion.

Eos its perfectly ok. You might be right. I thought she was serious because I saw the lady apologized too her and I thought if it was just a joke or something Alice would have told the lady that.
This is not an act. I think it explains how she plays 'crazy' so well.
"There's nothing good on. The media hates Christmas. The media loves vampires, though. Maybe they will show a Twilight Christmas." -Danmeg's 10 year old son.
I have met her at the stage door and I have known people who have interacted with her away from the theatre and we both got the same impression of her. And, that is that she is a very genuine, down to earth person. Nothing more, nothing less. I do think that this might be an act though I am not sure. But, I must say that the way her fans support her is something that scares me more then Alice Riply's actions do.
"If you try to shag my husband while I am still alive, I will shove the art of motorcycle maintenance up your rancid little Cu**. That's a good dear"
Tom Stoppard's Rock N Roll
She's just eccentric. You can be sane and unconventional at the same time. Saying it's an act makes it sound a lot more calculated than I believe it is.
Of course this is all an act. And a damn funny one at that. Those videos were hilarious. It's all a part of the persona she tries to create. And gee, what do you know, it's getting people talking about her, the show, and maybe even selling some tickets.
She knows exactly what she's doing. And I like said, these videos are infinitely entertaining, so I hope she keeps it up.
that's the longest a thread ever took to call Patti crazy.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.
