Love her.
Love her craziness.
Loved the speech.
Honestly, if she hadn't been slightly over the top, I'd have been disappointed. She totally deserved this, and she looked incredible in that blue dress.

Hah, apparently people can say as many nasty things about Alice singing terribly and being a maniac, but once LuPone is disparaged posts must be deleted?
How random.

Did anyone notice after Alice Ripley's speech, Sutton Foster clapping just a little too hard and clenching her jaw just a bit too much?

...yeah, I noticed. I said "Nice bitchface, Sutton Foster" and my mom was like "SERIOUSLY".
I'm not judging her, I think it was just kind of coincidental bitchface. I don't think she's deluded enough to be bitter that she somehow didn't win.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Me neither. That's why I said "how random". Three comments on this thread comparing Alice's crazy to Patti's crazy were deleted when they were all fairly innocuous.

And my post jokingly calling La Ripley a strong black woman was deleted, too.
Hmm?
Hmm?
I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)

If you mix whatever Liza and Alice are on, you may very well reach Nirvana.

I honestly thought she'd go a little crazier and call out all the "haters" who talk about her pitch, but I still wasn't dissapointed.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention...I'm the good cop, he's the bad cop.

Next to Normal's performance was one of the highlights of the night.
Her speech was definitely... odd. It seemed like she was suppressing tears by yelling the quote. She looked stunning. She came off as being crazy. But whatever. Now she's a crazy lady with a Tony award. So it balances out.
Still love her and still overjoyed she won.

After attacking Alice with all your ugly venom, why don't you do something decent-just congratulate her on winning the Tony tonight. She was entitled to say anything she wanted to after winning. And, when you all win your Tonys, you can say anything you want. Meanwhile, show respect to the actress who the Tony voters named Best Actress in a Musical. I'd like to see all you go on that stage and do better. Kvetch! Kvetch! Kvetch! It's ugly and it's getting old. As Sondheim wrote, Move on!

Yea I thought her speech was a little intense but I can't hate her for it. And she looked lovely.

Maybe now they'll get some decent merchandise for this show? All I want is a lousy fridge magnet for cryin' out loud.
The Overture is part of the show, people. Please shut your pie hole.

My question is why isn't the speech on youtube yet!
EDIT: Never mind lol.

I agree that she deserved the win and that Next to Normal gave a highlight performance, but none of you thought that speech was insincere banter?! I found it presumtuous and completely off-putting.

I seriously think Alice was fighting back tears. She is amazing and a very sweet woman if you meet her at the stage door. She actually takes time to talk to you and never rushes away. A class act.

Oh Alice was undoubtedly trying to hold back tears. But it's just rather odd how her suppressed tears comes out in an angry yell lol. But completely agree, she's one of the nicest, most humble people I've ever met.

I was embarrassed for her. And the number they performed...now I am CERTAIN I do not wish to see this show. I knew I wouldn't like this. But back to her speech...embarrassing.

No, the post you're referring to was deleted because the person insinuated that Alice (unlike Patti, who just yelled) was going to stab those who didn't like her.

They've had magnets for a couple of weeks now....

I thought it was hilarious, but I don't think it was supposed to be. Where I was at the Laurie Beechman Theater watching it, someone screamed out when she started yelling "Sing out Louise!" It was SO funny!
