NY1 have picked it as one of the top shows of 2016 as well.

I thought that it was fun and interesting. I can't say that I loved it, but I certainly enjoyed it and was hoping for an album. I actually really loved the set and lighting. I think that some people just don't understand satire and so they didn't grasp the show's humor which is a real pitty. I think that it deserved a Best Musical nom over School of Rock TBH.
@JM226, your rudeness in this thread is horrific. Let some fans be fans and try not to sh!t on absolutely everything.

I enjoyed American Psycho. I thought it was eons better than Waitress. Better than School of Rock. Better than that Gloria Estefan thing.
There is no justice when it comes to certain musicals. Honeymoon in Vegas. Fantatic but no one came. Bonnie and Clyde.. wonderful but the critics crapped all over Frank Wildhorn. Bright Star... a total surprise that I liked it . Yet crap like Waitress School of Rock, That Gloria Estefan thing run and better things close.
That's show biz.

You know, it actually would have been less work to write On Your Feet than typing out that Gloria Estefan Thing twice.

I hate the London cast recording. It's criminal that this show didn't get a new recording.

Maybe I shouldn't have been so harsh - I like Matt Smith, and if I hadn't have seen the Broadway production the album wouldn't annoy me so much. But hearing all they changed (for the better) but not being able to revisit it is annoying.

I'd still be willing to give some money to a Kickstarter to make a Broadway recording happen, if anybody reading this has any pull.

Thanks, neon. $300,000 ought to just about cover it. When can we expect to receive your check??

Hey, I didn't say I was funding the whole thing. That's why I said Kickstarter!

The step was always looking towards Broadway (hence Ben's involvement for so long). Also I know one of the producers and it was made clear on a FB post today that the show will be back."
It sold out a 325-seat theater while starring a Dr. Who. The show's commercial viability on the West End simply cannot be guaged based on that production's popularity. The Broadway production played a 1080-seat theater starring no one of note (despite Ben Walker's resume, he is by no means famous). and never had a house of less than 600. If it opened off-Broadway instead, it may still be running. This show played to a very narrow audience, so there is no way to claim that even Matt Smith would have sold out a West End theater on a daily basis and that it would have been successful.

People who don't live here don't seem to realise that before Smith was announced it was already getting talked about and had many intrigued and excited.

Do we know if/when the show will be licensed for regional and amateur use? I'd love to direct it at my university before I graduate.

I live there and not really. No more than a number of other new musicals. It is undeniable that Smith is what made it the hot ticket that it wasn't on Broadway.

If they hurry up and license this it could do well in smaller theaters. Bateman is hard to cast but the other roles are simpler and the story attracts a cult audience. Many theaters would enjoy producing this around Halloween 2017 if they get the opportunity.

They aren't releasing performance rights yet as they are not done with it yet.
And aaaaaa15 maybe we just remember differently but I remember lots of people talking about this show, not just theatrical press either before he was announced. The show would have easily sold out its run without him, they just wouldn't have sold out at the speed they did.

This was my absolute favorite show from last year - loved the music, the look, the cast was perfect - I would have loved a cast recording. Really sad it didn't last long.

What does this mean? Who are "they"? Is the material being revised, or will the show be produced elsewhere? Will it replace Bye Bye Birdie as NBC's next live musical?

I was so sad that it closed early as i had planned to see it on my trip to NYC but it closed right before i arrived
I saw it 5 times in London and had been really looking forward to seeing what they had done with it during the transfer. I really hope it returns to London!

^^^ I totally agree.
I will say though that reading that article, I'm not so sure that American Psycho was necessarily overshadowed by Hamilton. Even as someone who loved the show, it was the subject matter that wasn't going to appeal to middle America. Or the average tourist especially.
It was satirical, it was quirky, it was highly progressive in so many ways.
Those who are visiting the city and probably couldn't get tickets for Hamilton (unless they already had them in hand as I did) would actually be looking for other shows to see. So if anything, I would think Hamilton's intense popularity and domination of ticket sales (to the point you could't even get one), would be helpful to other shows. People want to see something.
I'm just not sure this was the one many would choose.
Which is a shame. It was terribly mesmerizing and I'm so glad I saw it.
Interestingly, of all the window cards I have hanging in my den, it's the one that elicits most of the questions from friends when they come over. Even more than the Hamilton window card, ironically.

I think the problem with this show is that some people just don't understand satire, so they couldn't grasp the tone of the musical. I found it really funny with inventive staging and a very intriguing score. I really wish that we did recieve a cast album as I'm not a big fan of the OLC recording (the accents and overall recording quality of the album isn't fantastic). I found it to be a significantly better and more thought provoking musical than School of Rock, which found itself with several Tony nominations and has had a fairly healthy run. I think this was one of those shows where people were expecting it to be a trainwreck, so people were out for blood on it.
