Skimble - I'm happy for you. I hope you get to see him perform again. For your sakes, I even hope there's a desirable wardrobe malfunction.
Compare the person who put "lol" next to their stress comment with the person throwing around terms like "borderline insanity " and you should be able to find Liza's post totally without merit.
Believe me or not, but I had heard good news from my nephew's husband [Andy's dresser] late last night. As you'll notice, in my previous posts I had mentioned that posters might be over-dramatizing the situation.
Also, should you need proof of my claims I'll post a pic from Andy's dressing room when I attend the 6/21 performance. There are already several from ROCKY on my Facebook page. Message me for the page name. You may have to scroll down endlessly since they were taken in 2014.
If I have the time I'll post the ROCKY pics here. Andy received a TKO from me in his dressing room, then I returned for round two in August 2014 and Andy returned the favor inside the Winter Garden.
Very happy for Andy that he will be able to open the show tonight - I hope it means that his injury truly was just a nasty "tweak" and nothing serious. I'm sure the energy in the theater tonight will be exceptional! Also, a ton of respect for Andrew Call for filling in at the last moment and presumably having to be prepared for opening night, just in case. Wishing everyone involved a very happy (and safe!) opening!
Glad to read that it wasn't as serious as originally reported. I had gotten tickets on TDF for the show tomorrow night before this happened so I'll be seeing it regardless of who is in it. I've seen him in his last 3 Broadway shows and he's always been great. Good luck to him and the rest of the cast tonight!
People can call me crazy or a psycho or a troll they want... but ANDY KARL played a huge role in my husband's recovery from cancer and obviously this GROUNDHOG DAY drama hits a lot of nerves for me... my husband recently saw it and loved it almost as much as he loved ROCKY... I just like to see him happy!
I'll try to be more calm in the future!
Thanks for your patience...

Don't you worry, Skimbleshanks2. It's not a bad thing to be passionate about theatre. :)
Side note, I told my boyfriend about all this and he pointed out that sports fans have similar concerns when their favorite players get injured.
IT'S ALL GOOD, PEOPLE.
Go Andy!!! Get that Tony nomination!!!

No need to apologize for Andy Karl love. Even though we don't have a personal stake in it, you never want to see hard working performers or creatives go through something like this. Especially with the added pressure of opening night. Hope he has a quick, full recovery.

Sorry kids, but my Facebook link won't work. Wanted to show you The Champ in all his glory. Will just have to wait until June.

It worked for me a second ago, showtunes R Us.
Question: do all leads on Broadway have dressers? I understand for quick change scenes they are necessary, but I thought most actors would just dress themselves? Or does a dresser do ironing, laundry, or other things?
sho t unes, I wouldn't post pictures of any actor's dressing room, let alone of the actor themself, without their permission to do so. Bad idea.

Wow. A torn ACL. He says it will be fine with Physical Therapy but man to jump right back into the show.

This is on TDF for Friday. I'd really prefer to see Andy, can anyone take an educated guess if he will be in this week beyond tonight's show?
I could see Andy going on tonight and then sitting out until he gets fully recovered. Just so he's eligible for a tony award.

I saw Andy's understudy Saturday night. Andrew I think his name was. He did a very good job with this role, he was of course an asshole, but also charming and sweet. You could see him fumbling with a few of the quick changes in the beginning and being behind his beats for the first scene or so, but by about 15 minutes in he found his rhythm and the audience loved it. He really naturally fell into the role, he figured out his beats and how long to pause during audience reactions.
Overall I really enjoyed the show, very pleasant. A little repetitive given its nature that's understandable.

The new BWW article says Andy tore his ACL-and that's a pretty major injury if my memory serves me. Is it just him trying to get through this week so he can get a Tony nomination? Because I really feel like he shouldn't risk his health on this.
Who is attending tonite's Opening Night? It should be amazing on so many levels.

There's no way he heals from a Torn ACL with just rest and therapy. There will have to be some kind of surgical procedure involved here. He's really pushing it with this crap. Risking greater permanent damage.

Performing tonight than taking a few weeks off would be useless in terms of his Tony chances. First, the 40 or so nominated news to see him before they compile the nominations. Then, the much larger voting body has to see him.
Guess what liza, im sure he knows More than you, and 'this crap'?
A torn ACL is no joke and cannot heal without surgery at some point. Kudos to Andy for strapping on a brace (I'm sure) and going for it! I'm guessing he will be performing on and off as he is able through Tony season. Of course I don't know his exact situation but I've known a couple of college athletes who were able to play on a partially torn ACL to finish out a season, which has a generally defined ending date, before getting it surgically repaired. It's more of a structural stability thing at this point - just keeping his knee from giving way while he gets out there.
His schedule may become quite unpredictable in the coming weeks. I wish him nothing but the best and hope he is able to both perform this role and take care of his body. Hope anyone attending tonight has a great time.

I couldn't help but notice....that one of the posters on here has a handle of ACL2006. I was hoping that wasn't bad karma haha. I cant believe he can perform 8 days a week with a torn ACL. I'm no doctor but I know in the sports world that is a serious season ending injury. But hopefully they can find a way to make it work, or at least have some sort of schedule where he can handle things physically. As I mentioned in a previous post, maybe he avoids matinees or splits duties with the understudy 50/50.
