I searched, but I did not see any mention, of when are the planned releases of these two shows' Original Cast Recordings. If anyone has any info, I will be very much obliged !
Well, what is the usual time between the opening and the OCR release ? About 2 months, I think ? Or hopefully earlier ? It seems to me, that both are considered safe bets for an OCR release ! Updated On: 3/26/07 at 09:48 PM
I hope they give the pirate queen the same tretment as other major sung-through musicals have got- a COMPLETE cast recording (as Lesmis, Miss Saigon, Caroline or Change, and Dessa Rose)
musicalkid, both Les Mis and Miss Saigon got a Complete Recording a few years after the OCRs were released and not from the beginning ! So, I guess, that is also the plan for Pirate Queen, provided of course that it has a similiar success !
*Pouts* I really wanted the Legally Blonde recording before I saw it in April...
And a PQ OCR wouldn't be bad either, but I don't know if I'll spend all the money on a complete recording (God bless Highlights-from CDs)
"In the rain, the pavement shines like silver
All the lights are misty in the river
In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight
And all I see is him and me forever and forever."
The rumor mill has it that a PQ cast recording will be available sometime between May and June. I wont hold my breath until I read it officially somewhere but I hope that's true!
Might be something to ask B&S if anyone is going to their Barnes and Noble booksigning
MISS SAIGON was ONLY released completely (2 discs -- one for each act). Though it contains the Original London Cast, which was a bit different from the Broadway production, alas it is considered a COMPLETE recording of the score as it was at that time. Years later a Symphonic Recording was made which incorporated the changes made to the show after it's Broadway production, but it's a 2nd COMPLETE recording of the show.
LES MISERABLES was the same situation. All recordings of the show are considered COMPLETE recordings.
But the phrase "COMPLETE Recording" appears only on the Symphonic recordings of both Les Mis and Saigon, so that means that the creators consider only those as such ! And these two contain segments that were not on the OCRs. Maybe they are the changes made for Broadway, but still, since they do not exist on the previous ones, it is safe to say that these are the versions that the creators consider as complete !
Pirate Queen will have a recording. With the name recognition of Boublil and Schoenberg's other shows, they'd be stupid to NOT record it.
Plus, a friend who works at the Hilton informed me recently that they've been fixing some of the kinks and it has improved quite a bit (in his opinion, anyway). And he hated it the first time he saw it. Apparently ticket sales are pretty decent as well, and it should be running until the holidays.
And usually longer run = better chance of a recording.

Uhm, this would have to be a *good* show first, and the score is getting mixed reviews. And sorry, but the names themselves are known in the US only to a very small market, one certainly not large enough to warrant a two-disc recording.
Inofar as the timeline, let's get the shows open first before obsessing over OCRs that may or may not ever come to fruition. We're talking about Broadway here, one never known for consistency.
SeanM, I respectfully disagree. There are many shows that got recordings, that their creators were way less known ! Their names per se may not be well known, but the tag "From the composing duo of Les Mis and Miss Saigon" will surely attract much attention !
Both of these shows have a HIGH chance of touring and touring successfully, so I would imagine both of them will get recorded. If Martin Guerre can be recorded, PQ can be. And Legally Blonde seems like it's going to have some success, so I imagine it will as well. I would say expect them around June, that seems like the time when all the other ones from past seasons came out.

Does Pirate Queen really have a high chance of touring? If it flops on Broadway, will it tour? I guess it could be successful, but from what I've heard so far, I just think it might just bomb. Good point about Martin Guerre, though.
I have to agree with Legally Blonde, though. I imagine it will at least last as long as The Wedding Singer, and that got a recording! Based on the videos, I can't wait till that recording comes out. I love the sampler, and I'm looking forward to more!
I'd say Pirate Queen has a great chance. It's only in previews but it's in the 80s as far as attendence, which is good. I think it has a better chance of success on tour than Legally Blonde because it would appeal to a wider audience, not just teenage girls.
You all do realize that you are arguing over a mute point, don't you? A PQ recording has been verbally confirmed by many people involved with the show to many fans who have asked. It's not a question of IF, it's a question of WHEN... and the "when" has probably already been scheduled but just hasn't officially been announced. Updated On: 3/27/07 at 07:49 PM
And I'd happily bet that the record company took a serious bath on MARTIN GUERRE, even as it tried to market it as coming from the composer of LES MIZ and MISS SAIGON. Names dont mean much of anything outside New York.
You guys seem to think that every rumour is written in stone truth. Let's get these shows open first before worrying about the OCRs. LEGALLY BLONDE may arrive DOA or it may be a wild success. If it's the latter, great, let the OCRs come out. But if it's not such a great hit, do you think any recording company is going to take a chance on a failed show's name brand to sell the CDs? Remember: this is business, not wish fulfillment on demand. If you want that, there are other avenues open to you, but their legality is questionable. Still, if it fulfills the need...
