I agree...It was a real fun contest, and I for one was blessed by all the support from friends and people I didn't know. I enjoyed it-- THANK YOU BROADWAYWORLD!!!
As for future contests...I do think it would be a good idea to format it differently..Like with proffesional judges and stuff
I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I agree with bbeech.
Yes, there were many talented contestants. Also, basing the results of a contest on votes alone may or may not be a fair way to judge talent. Middle America, for the most part, does not always know true ability.
However, if Broadwayworld.com advertised that this contest would be based on the number of votes counted, the results should reflect that. As bbeech said, it seems unreasonable to assume that there were not at least 5,000 unique voters for Nick P.'s entry. I think that the auditing system should be explained a little more clearly. I personally feel that there was a bit of discrimination toward Nick.
I understand that this post will more than likely change nothing, but I will state that I am extremely unhappy with the entire handling of the contest.
With that being said, congratulations to the winners. :)
Huh? What do you mean by "middle America"? Middle America is probably not the best term to use here; I meant the general public. The voting crowd. People often vote for what is popular instead of what truly deserves the win. This was not meant to be a shot at anyone. It's only a general statement.
And what would he be discriminated for? I don't know why he would be discriminated against; that's why I put this statement out there. Maybe Disney wasn't looking for a male voice to be included on the soundtrack. I have no idea, and it was probably ignorant of me to throw it out there. I'm just expressing that I don't understand how someone who has the most viewed video on youtube for the day does not have at least 5k unique votes. I don't necessarily think that the voting system is the fairest way to judge talent, but the contest did state that this would be based on popularity.
Anyway, I'm not trying to start an argument. I'm simply looking for an outlet to express my dissatisfaction. I'm not suggesting that the results be changed because I think that the two who are getting a chance to experience this amazing opportunity deserve it.
Even still, Craig, it is easy to understand why Disney (did they make the final decision?) would not want a MAN on the recording. I mean what would MIDDLE AMERICA think?
Just a thought but maybe Nick was disqualified for the use of too many technical aides as he looked to be in a recording studio for his entry. Yeh he was good but was by no means the best and I believe that this was meant to be sung without the aid of voice enhancing equipment. I also agree that the contest should have had more defined eligability rules and it should have been more based on talent and not just popularity. With that being articulated I also want to congratulate the winners, everyone that entered is a winner in my opinion as it does take courage to do this. Broadway World is the winner overall even though they could have run a better contest they did drive many people to there web site that would not even know of them without this contest so KUDO's to BWW.
I agree with you Sueleengay, Stephanie the star is deserving of the top ten but who knows how it will all shake out. Of course full disclosure is warranted here, I am very biased regarding stephaniethestar since I am her dad and think she is amazing. there were several others that I felt were very good also and I do feel that everyone that did a serious entry and really sang there hearts out were winners.

Well, that would explain the on-and-off ColdFusion error pages and overall slowness.

I couldn't get through the first minute of Nick's song. His voice is like a rake on a chalk board, IMO.
Get over yourselves.

I love it how people, who don't post about anything else on this board, are up in arms over this.

No, that would be 'assuming'. Funny what some people do when they first join this board.
Nick was the only one I saw who looked to be in a recording studio. His voice was 'enhanced' in every post. Just because he got that many people to WATCH him, doesn't mean that they voted for him. I watched him and didn't vote for him. He didn't deserve it.

Wow, I just came on the board to see if I could find out why Nick Pitera did not win second place and I got to read all this crap. The only person here that seems to show any sense at all is bbeech.
To answer everyone’s question on why this is still an issue is because there are a lot of people who were unable to vote after viewing Nick’s video. There are literally hundreds of forums where people are still asking if this guy won the competition. Therefore, expect to see more curious people wandering in your little message board to find their answer and express their thoughts.
Oh, and to answer your question bbeech about TheatreDiva constantly attacking Nick? It’s because she’s a bitch… Someone had to say it.
I'm going to defend the well over 100 people that entered and didn't win NOR were they mentioned in the winning announcement (which only mentioned both winners) by saying the submissions were ALL amazing. Whether it was someone who promoted themselves and had support to the 4 year old who just did the contest to do the contest.
The amount of talent OVERALL was such a treat to witness.
I'm sorry some of the entrants have bad feelings about the contest. But I guess that's just the nature of these things.

Firstly, I want to congratulate the winners for a job well done! I've been keeping up with the contest since it started and it truly was an amazing race.
That said, as someone who actively tracked this contest, I really don't understand how the judges reached their decision. Nick P.'s video was nothing short of amazing and got a lot of attention on the web. For that matter, I heard of the contest because of him, as old high school friends from Puerto Rico were discussing his great talent. However, his votes were repeatedly and mysteriously lowered by the site staffers without any explanations. And though members of his facebook group send various inquiries on this subject, we never got a reply. I think broadwayworld owes its members a degree of transparency which I think has been lacking during this entire contest.
Where did it say in the rules that all contestants had to use the same quality of recording devices? Some were done in front of computer screens with camera and recording courtesy of K-Mart. Some were done in schools with a video technician and musical accompanists provided by the school and yes, Nick had access to a recording studio. You know what? I don't think that has anything to do with it. Nick was incredible, I feel, but not only because of his sound and recording assistance. Because truthfully, some of the people who recorded in their bedrooms of dorm rooms were just at good. I am sorry there is so much bad feelings about this contest. Get over it. Most of you will be in a recording studio soon enough doing more than WATCHING other people recording, if you know what I mean. Life is not fair, but at least you can not say that the winners of this contest are not extremely talented.
This is one of the most ridiculous threads I've seen on BWW.
It is quite clear that there is animosity from Nick's group of fans (though frankly it seems transparent that most of these people arguing are probably his friends) that seems to me unfairly placed to BWW. Please ask yourselves why would BWW change the voting? What possibly would they gain with having Nick lose? It makes zero sense to me.
Nick's video was posted on a lot of sites this is true. It was on "Oh No They Didn't!" that I even saw the video. It was posted however for the particular way he sung and not so much in appreiciation of. So thinking that just because a lot of people saw the video and voted for him, is pretty foolish if you yourself were not over every viewers shoulder seeing them vote for Nick. In contrast to his video, the winner Jessica's was posted. From the responses on "Oh No They Didn't!", Jessica was clearly favored. So please, these people arguing need to get over themselves. You sound foolish.
You can expect a follow up posting on "Oh No They Didn't!" on how ridiculous this how thing really is.
I really wish people could just get OVER this! It's over and done with.. do I think everything was done perfectly?.. NO.. but I think they handled this the best they could considering the type of competition it was. Everyone who lost is most likely dissapointed. I know I was.. but you just be happy for those who did win and MOVE ON!
I'm sure BWW has learned something about running contests of this nature, and I would think that thier system will only get better for future contests.. A lot of suggestions have been made in that regard.
As to having good equipment.. I do NOT think that is relevant. I wasn't in a recording studio, but I did have a good mic and some reverb. As long as it wasn't stipulated in the rules that this had to be a raw recording using your internal camera mic, there is no point even arguing that issue. Unless they give VERY specific rules, where are you going to draw the line? You can't use a mic over 50 dollars?.. 20 dollars? You can't use a mic at all?
There are always going to be sour grapes when someone's favorite did not win.. but the fact of the matter is.. not EVERYONE can win. Some have to lose.. you just accept it and move on to the next thing! They are obviously not going to change the outcome, so why waste your energy and sanity beating a dead horse?
I personally voted for Nick 5001 times. That means he won right? RIGHT?!
Come on people your complaining and bitching over a little mermaid singing contest. 99% of the world would be embarrassed just to have made a youtube video of themselves singing THE LITTLE MERMAID! If your going to complain at least sing something worthwhile.
