Actually, there was a quite a bit of interest in it and they were in talks with (I think it was Rosie O'Donnell, but my memory could be WAAAAY off.k) Damon pretty much chasesd them away with his need to have total creative control. This was all happening around the success of the release of the CD.
And while I don't see it happening any more, I think it actually could have made a great movie.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

I had never heard of this show until I got the demo CD from Ebay a few years back. It only has about 7 or 8 songs on it, but I fell in love with it, and listen to it regularly.

It's SO unfortunate that he's not more willing to collaborate The show DOES need some work, but the story itself is so so good, and would have made a potentially amazing movie. But as is it's just not quite finished yet! The score could be tightened up a bit, a couple of scenes could be made shorter, etc.
But I guess if Damon doesn't want anything more done with it, it'll probably just stay as is and be done in some regional theaters and stuff. That's better than nothing for sure, but it still makes me sad because I see so much more potential in it!
Heck, I even think that you could take the music out and it would still make an amazing drama movie! Don't get me wrong, a lot of the score is really beautiful and I do like it, but it's not so much what really draws me to the show- the story is :)
I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.
Saw the Toronto production on Saturday for closing night, in support of some friends who were a part of it. Thought it was fantastic. Such a talented cast. Anyone else check it out?
A new theater group here in Denver is doing it. It opens next weekend. I am supposed to see it when it opens. I have an article ready to go up on it tomorrow or Tuesday. What this new group does is interesting and good. As I was going over the article again, I noticed something that had been staring me in the face and had to wait to post it until I got an answer about it. That s in the article also. I knew I had to find out because I figured people here would question it. Some people may already know about it.
^that could possibly be the most cryptic post ever.

Not sure if you remember, but I played the Priest in a production of "bare" in Sacramento last year, produced by Artistic Differences. We're currently in rehearsals for a one-night-only concert production of the show, with about 90% the same cast, on August 13.
There's ticket info at the link, or just let me know if you have any questions!
craztown, I saw the Toronto production on July 22nd and thought it was wonderful. Having only heard the recording (over and over) and seen the you-know-what online, this production was everything I thought the show would be. It definitely had a few flaws, though. The orchestra was nowhere near loud enough, and I thought that certain actors were a bit flat. Overall, amazingly talented cast and great show. I also found it interesting how much they had changed the staging from the original production.
Ok...so what was there to BE cryptic about? You said NOTHING in the article that seems like a secret. However, you do have some pretty scary typos.

I just didn't want to talk about the article before it was up and the title of the show has changed. I assume that people following the s how may know that already. When I was doing the article I was referring to it by "bare: a pop opera" and realized that this company was calling it :...the musical".
Also, I just went back to my original document for the article. I don't know what happened between posting it and it going live. I will re-check it and correct them. Thank you for pointing that out and feel free to PM me with what you found in case I miss them. I see a few. That ticks me off. It has happened before. I went over this article 3 times before I posted it.
Well, I hope they got permission. Thy aren't allowed to just go and change the title of the show. It says so in their licensing agreement.

In the article it mentions the name change and I checked with the theater company before printing the article. They are fine and they are aware of what the agreement says.

LOL opening night the orchestra was frequently too loud and drowned out the singers making hash of a lot of the lyrics. Not sure why you want teh orchestra louder than the singers?
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks." Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
I am seeing the Denver production this evening. For some reason, there was not a review in the major newspaper here. My understanding is that our theatre critic was on vacation and they sent someone in his place but he didn't post a review. She may have by now, I will check but the show ends this weekend.
Here is a review of the production that just ended in Phoenix. What the article fails to mention is that the Director's contract was up on opening night and Damon himself stepped in to help these kids out. But not as the director.
I saw "Bare" at Hart House in Toronto on the first Saturday after its opening, a spur of the moment thing. I liked it, flaws and all. I came home, found the CD and listened to it. Really liked it. Went back to see "Bare" again the following Saturday. LOVED it, flaws and all. I've been listening to it ever since, watching every YOUtube video of every production I can find, including one in Italian. There's NOTHING else like this and I can't seem to get enough! 12-step programme?
