I think Sher is becoming a bit hit or miss to me. His Fiddler was... not my favorite. His Mockingbird was fine, but wasn't a complete knockout that I was expecting. Didn't love his My Fair Lady. It's mostly his casting choices/performances that don't quite click for me. But these 3 are wonderful and sounds like an interesting project.

Yes, on paper could be “white people problem.”

I agree that Sher’s track record isn’t unimpeachable. I also worry about the sales for something like this. As we know from GARY and other shows, Nathan Lane doesn’t really sell without a costar of equal or greater name value, and this play doesn’t have that at all.

Is it a 3-character play? Or additional cast TBA?

Either way, I’m intrigued.

Is he really? I guess if you're into over-produced sets and 10 minute transitions between scenes.

Oh, please. The Light in the Piazza? South Pacific? The King and I? Those productions were heavenly.

Jordan Catalano said: "Ticket prices are weird. First four rows of the mezz are $198 each and the fifth row is $95. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a steep drop in prices by one row."

Rear Mezz (starting with Row EE) is a whole separate section at Studio 54.  And there's a bar in front of Row EE that is super annoying.  Still, a very significant price drop.

I was just looking for tickets during the second week of previews. The prices are insane. $288 for first row of mezz? Most of the orchestra 288-198.

Is this show being independently produced and are they renting 54? That would maybe explain the higher prices for an unknown play. I’m sure the cast isn’t cheap.

I’ve never heard of the ticket agent.

It is being produced commercially by Jeffrey Richards. Criterion Ticketing is the new Roundabout-owned site for their venue rentals.

As for the absurd prices, no doubt they will drop. Any time Nathan is in a play as the only big ticket name, those shows do not sell. Burstein & Wanamaker mean virtually nothing. Unless this gets “Best Play” type reviews. The premise seems slight on paper.

Also just realized it's opening in the dead of winter (previews start in less than 2 weeks, Jan 13), probably because of Sher's CAMELOT schedule. I can't think of a worse time to open a play without any real stars, and there's TONS of inventory based on a cursory look at the ticketing site.
