Any board members with big bucks? To benefit BCEFA, an auction is being held on eBay for a day on the Rent set with Anthony Rapp. I'm counting on someone here winning this and telling us all about it!

"In October pre-production began on the film version of the Pulitzer and Tony Award winning musical RENT! This beloved show - which Rolling Stone called “a raw and riveting milestone in musical theatre” and which The New York Times proclaimed “an exhilarating rock opera” - re-unites its original Broadway stars Anthony Rapp, Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal, Taye Diggs, Jesse L. Martin and Wilson Jermaine Hereida under the direction of veteran movie director Chris Columbus (of HARRY POTTER, MRS. DOUBTFIRE and HOME ALONE fame). Pick a day between March – May 2005 when you and a friend will be guests of Anthony Rapp on the RENT movie set at Treasure Island in San Francisco. Anthony will be your host for the day, introducing you to other cast members, as you watch a day of filming. Join Anthony and other cast members for lunch. You will have the ultimate insider’s view of this long-awaited movie musical and meet some of the show’s original stars, now household names around the globe. An unforgettable experience."

$1000 won't do it. The walk ons that BCEFA always offers at the Neder usually go for from 8-10,000. I'm guessing this will be even more appealing. I hope they raise a ton with it. :)

Not as if I'm going to bid, but I'm assuming the winner provides his own transportation?

What a cool experience. If money were no object, I'd bid.

IS it a walk-on or is it just a set visit?

There's been something rather... distracting about your posts lately, Tiff.

Umm, okay, it seems to be an all day set visit, including lunch with the cast.

Seems to be. This announcement seems fairly official, and Bway buff also said Wilson would be starting rehearsals next week with Rosario, Adam and Anthony.

Wowie Kazowie!
I found out about this by passing by the compulsive bowlers board today and was so excited/etc when i go to the auction site :)

I want this sooo bad (I'm a film+theatre person and there is probably nothing more appealing than a day on the set of a movie that is an adaptation of one of ur favorite musicals...its everything i love heh..not to mention that you bring a friend and there's a person that happens to give you the walkaround on the set--you get to watch/meet/everything)

Sooo... I technically have the money, as long as the auction doesn't go tooooo high because if it went too high I dunno...it'd be a real challenge to determine if I reallyreally wanted it that bad (which i would, but would i want to spend all the money)/ couldn't afford it myself if it really goes highhigh (i could afford it with batmitzvah money that's been sitting in the account for 3+ years now and will probably never be used anyways...so maybe this is a good time to implement the "no day but today" philosophy and live a little...it jusdt depends if i think there'll ever be anything else to use the money for which right ow...i don't know if i'd want to pass this up if i had the chance)...
I can only pray I get the chance to bid on this incredible auction...I'd love so very much to get the chance to go!

We'll see, I guess... (I just wish people wouldn't bid it up so early, ya know? Sometimes it could cause unnecessary extra amounts to be added to the auction total hehe--but in this case it is for a good cause anyway...)

Again...it all depends on how much the auction ends up at as of a little past this time next week... (ihopeihopeihope) Updated On: 11/25/04 at 11:20 PM

"who knows what price it will be at in 9 days! "

Yeah-- No kidding...it can either be still "relatively" low (and then spurt at the end, etc), or already have skyrocketed...

And thanks for the good luck (good luck can be said at anytime besides an opening night..and this isn't for an opening night hehe *producers*)

You mean the generally high quality in them, right? But golly gee, Chloe, if there's something that's distracting you too much, maybe I should just take down the distraction all together. God forbid I make you unproductive! re: Benefit Auction of Day on Rent Movie Set

Oh yeah, topic. Umm...$1000 on a day on the RENT set seems a bit much, but at least it's for charity! I think we should just make very good friends with Camerangel, who lives in the Bay area and I'm sure already has the blueprints to sneak onto the Treasure Island set. Remember me, sweetie? I wuv you!

Tiff, if $1000 on a day on the Rent set seems too much to you then you'd be amazed that a small walk-on role at the Neder (and for other shows as well) have raised more than $10,000 each for several years now. The amount for the day in SF will undoubtedly go much higher than $1000. It's for an entire day, lunch with Anthony and a chance to spend time with the entire cast. This includes much more actual time than the Broadway one has in the past. I hope it raises a lot of $$ for BCEFA. I just wonder how many of those who are bidding on it, and who don't win the auction, will still donate to BCEFA. Probably not many, which is just sad.

"small walk-on role at the Neder (and for other shows as well) have raised more than $10,000 each for several years now."

I was at the grand auction this year and it was amazing to see how much some of the walk-ons actually did go for (especially smaller ones, and this year the rent pack was kinda bigger compared to other packs)--but I was kinda surprised the Rent one "only" (compared to the previous year, for example) went for 68 hundred--but they did split the victory so two people won walk-ons, thus doubling the price...(I had read it always went over/about 10,000, etc)

In my opinion looking at everything that's offered in the auction on eBay and looking at the walkons as was pointed out, the price isn't too godawful--it is pricey--duh--but at this point could be a worthwhile auction (plus it goes th BC/EFA!--and on that subject of course most of those who bid and lose won't go and donate to BC/EFA, sad but true--this is because usually people like getting something in return besides the immense satisfaction that comes from donating--also very sad-- However some could end up donating later down the road. With eBay, anyone's exposed to the chance to purchase anything and in this case I think the auction is viewed in this manner by some--as in its not money for a charity--its money to buy something--...then again, I would kinda hope many of those actually bidding on it do care about bc/efa because of the nature of the auction...)

Yeah...
