What do you think is the best rock ballad, the best love ballad, and the best song that establishes an actor/actress as a definite Broadway star? There can be more than one for each category
Broadway star song:
FEMALE: The Wizard and I, and Roses Turn
MALE: Impossible Dream
ROCK BALLAD:
La Vie Boheme (RENT)
LOVE BALLAD:
As Long As Youre Mine (Wicked)
and I cant think of another...itll come to me later
Broadway Star Joined: 6/13/04
Female: Gimme Gimme-Millie Donna Murphy-Ohio
Male: Hunter Foster-Suddenly Seymore
"And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" Jennifer Holliday
ROCK BALLAD:
Male - "Midnight Radio" (HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH)
Female- "Origin of Love" (HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH)
BEST LOVE BALLAD:
Male - "Tell My Father" (CIVIL WAR....love between dad and son)
Female - "Our Kind of Love" (BEAUTIFUL GAME)
Male/Female - "All I Ask Of You" (PHANTOM OF THE OPERA)
Male/Male - "I'll Cover You" (RENT)
BEST SONG THAT ESTABLISHES AN ACTOR/ACTRESS
Male - "Love Changes Everything" (ASPECTS OF LOVE: Michael Ball)
Female - "And I am Telling You" (DREAMGIRLS: Jennifer Holliday)
I know there are better ones out there, but I am brain dead right now.
I really love the song "Home" from The Wiz. Also, "The Ladies Who Lunch" from Company (but then again, nobody can do it like Stritch!)
I agree with "Im Not Going"
I also have to add "All I Ask Of You" (love ballad), & "Once Before I Go" (establishes an actor).

Anthem from Chess
Memory from Cats
Don't Cry For Me Argentina from Evita
WiCkEDrOcKS - I hate to be a bitch, but "La Vie Boheme" is not really a ballad. Not really at all. "One Song Glory" would be a rock ballad.
Favorite Broadway Love Songs:
"In Whatever Time We Have" ~Children of Eden
"As Long As You're Mine" ~Wicked
"Without You" ~RENT
"All The Wasted Time" ~Parade

I almost choked reading "The Wizard and I" and "Rose's Turn" in the same sentence. Don't think I could ever put THOSE TWO in the same category. If anything from Wicked, I'd pick "No Good Deed".
My two cents:
"Rose's Turn"
"Being Alive"
"Your Daddy's Son" - Ragtime
"Bring Him Home"
"Strongest Suit" & "Nubia" - Aida
"Maria" - West Side
"And I am Telling You..."
(for starters)
Should I bring something to the pity party, or are you all set? Trust me, that was me nicely disagreeing with you.
All I said was sorry for having an opinion. You can have one too. It doesn't bother me.
Then don't apologize for your opinion!!!!
love ya

"Male: Hunter Foster-Suddenly Seymore" I would have said Hunter Foster, RUN FREEDOM RUN even though he wasn't nominated it was such a huge step for him (esp. w/ IT being the tony perf) i think it really gave him a name.
A NEW LIFE: Jekyll & Hyde - Linda Eder! Duh!

these are all really good ones. hm...i did 'not for the life of me' from millie at a talent show for my school once, and i won. i guess that's not really a 'star-making' song, but...o don't listen to me! i have no clue what i'm saying!

I was gonna metion Glory, but Undiscovered beat me to it.
"Gimme Gimme" Thoroughly Modern Millie
"No Good Deed" Wicked
"All I Ask of You" Phantom of the Opera
Wow. You put a lot of thought into that one, didn't ya?
Wicked4Lyfe - You really think Suddenly Seymour is a star-making song for Hunter Foster? If anyone, I think Audrey (Kerry) stars more in that song.
As Long as You're Mine is the best ballad you can think of? You must be joking.
