Posted: 6/11/05 at 11:43pmI would not select anyone over Idina, but Honorable Mention would go to Anika Larsen (currently in the All Shook Up ensemble), whom I saw play Maureen several times when she was a swing on tour (she was outstanding in several other roles she covered as well). aVa did a great job as Maureen in the most recent tour -- and not just because I know her.

I thought Kristen Lee Kelly was the worst Maureen I've ever seen...
And why am I not surprised that the kiddies all insist on Idina being the best Maureen although they most probably never saw her in the role (except on a crappy bootleg).

its not just the 'kiddies' who really liked idena - its a matter of opinion- don't go making judgments just because alot of people haven't had the pleasure of witnessing several of the mentioned below on stage. the tour has come through my city twice- i've seen both and can still say i preferred idena's 'maureen'
and that opinion wasn't formed on account of a 'crappy bootleg'

I heard amazing things about Sherie Rene Scott....
And I'd like to make a point: I can't say this for sure seeing as how I've never seen anyone in the role of Maureen, but just because someone originates a role does not make her the best.

I've only actually seen two... each twice: Christina Fadale and Kelly Karbacz (sp?). Vocally, at least, Kelly reminded me a bit of Idina. I think I liked her better, she was cuter. Christina was a lot more shamelessly-in-your-face, but not necessarily all that funny. She was funny because the part is, but I didn't feel like she added much that wasn't over-the-top insanity.
If I could choose one to go back in time and see (much as I love Idina), it would have to be Sherie Rene. She's one of the funniest actresses we've got on stage now, I think, and surely her belt is incredible.

Yeah, I remember hearing her in AIDA, and then finding out she had played Maureen in RENT and I thought "wow she must have been amazing in that role!"
