Happy trails to Bob the Drag Queen, who exited the Al Hirschfeld purse-first following an eight-week run in MOULIN ROUGE!. Their numbers should stay up for the rest of the Broadway run.

Blakely Slaybaugh also finished up a yearlong stint as Zazu the hornbill in THE LION KING. Cameron Pow returns tonight.

The newer play options are off to good starts. JELLICLE BALL, too.

And I’d say that’s a good week for CHICAGO, with Whitney out.

Spring has sprung and we’re off and running. It seems Mincemeat is hovering around $100K higher than it had been for most of the run and that feels good.

Strong start for the JELLICLE BALL, which makes me so happy because the whole production is a labor of love for everyone involved and they are invested in its success. I already know that it’s going to be a lock for some Tonys (since they won’t be Drama Desk or OCC eligible - they were last year). But also, it’s as much of a reinvention as it is a revival and demands to be see for the sheer joy of it all.

DDA is probably going to coast on the star power for a while, but I see it falling off soon after the reviews come out since I don’t see a scenario where critics are going to like this.

Salesman has an ATP of $94? Is there a big discount code out there somewhere that I missed? Or is it all being sold last-minute?

Death of a Salesman is selling $10 group tickets to NYC public schools, which I assume has contributed to this.  I’ve also heard it’s shown up on TDF a few times, but I haven’t checked that myself.

GroffSauce is helping Just in Time make bank as he enters his final dates.

"

A LOT of tickets that were priced on presale ran for $45 to $70, including a lot of rear orchestra seats. (That’s how I got mine). The producers seem keen on building WOM and then raising prices later when it becomes a hit, instead of the opposite of starting obscenely high and dropping down or out when it flops.

It’s a hell of a lot easier to get people to pay $70 to see Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf in the great American play, as opposed to $249+ to see Ayo Edibiri and Don Cheadle in PROOF

I'm so interested in seeing the grosses for his final week + the average ticket & top ticket prices.

I imagine it'll hit the $2m mark in weekly grosses.

Re, Salesman - they do seem to be pricing the Winter Garden very thoughtfully / taking advantage of the large house to offer a solid range of ticket rates. I went to a weekday evening performance the 2nd week of previews and the very friendly box office attendant offered two full-view seats Orch H 13-15 (which were indeed a great view) for $109 each. And their Student Group ticketing is quite lovely to see. (I'm in the camp that found this production quite outstanding all around, though I've been appreciating the variety of opinions on the board / curious to see how it continues to grow.)

Also thrilled to see Jellicle Ball immediately off to a great start. Hopefully the great word of mouth is supported by strong reviews.

And I'll admit to having quite underestimated DDA - I do hope the buzz improves over previews, as I think Guirgis is one of our best contemporary playwrights and the title is indeed an iconic one.

Unfortunately this script is not a good indicator of his talent.

To that end, I don’t even think it’s his fault. The property is really not suited to adaptation because it bucks the claustrophobia and tension that the film builds up inside the bank. With that comes a lot of audience laughter as they bumble around and then there isn’t any real stakes by the time the show reaches its climax.

It treats the audience as both onlookers and hostages by-proxy, which doesn’t work.
