A nice rally for most shows but I would bet on Six being the next long-runner to announce a closure within the coming weeks or few months.

Happy trails to BUG, ALL OUT: COMEDY ABOUT AMBITION, Jeremy Jordan, Kandi Burruss, and Tilly Evans-Krueger (an integral part of THE OUTSIDERS’ exceptional choreography).

Good start for DEATH OF A SALESMAN for its first two previews.

Note that STRANGER THINGS had to cancel its Saturday matinee because of “technical difficulties,” so that explains why their numbers are down.

There were also a few makeup performances last week to atone for those cancelled during Winter Storm Hernando.

I think SIX has run its course. I’m shocked they didn’t try more creative casting ideas, but I think those roles would be a bear for anyone, even for a short run. I also see STRANGER THINGS going back down into its softer numbers and that might be pulling up for a landing soon. I know they just announced a new cast, but I can’t imagine Netflix is going to want to go back to months of high revenue loss now that the novelty of the new season of Stranger Things has fizzled.

Love that Mincemeat is staying consistent. I don’t think they’ve ever had a streak of bad weeks that were cause for pearl clutching and I love that for them.

TWO STRANGERS is gonna hold on for dear life until awards season and I hope they are rewarded handsomely for it. They seem to be comfortably locked in for at least four Tony nominations (Musical, Leading Actor, Book, and Score), which almost mirrors the trajectory of Mincemeat. But only time will tell.

Death Becomes Her seems to be running out of steam.

They have deep pockets, so I doubt they'll close anytime soon but the chances of them recouping on Broadway are impossible.

Agreed. Everyone who has wanted to see it has done so already, and as I had mentioned last week, they might be in better fortunes if the main cast was replaced wholesale instead of just Hilty. Undoubtedly, those extension contracts had a pay bump and grosses are dropping.

I admire Simard, Sieber, and Williams for sticking with a show for 18 months (not counting out of town), but it’s time to reinvigorate. I got offered a fifth row lottery seat from a friend for $45 last week and I turned it down solely because, aside from Betsy, there was no compelling reason to return (and when I refuse a ticket, that says A LOT).

There was a special magic with Megan, for sure. But, it will make its money back on tour just fine. It's a great show.

STRANGER THINGS should be fine. The animated spinoff releases on Netflix next month and should perk everyone's ears up again until the proshot releases. Netflix has very deep pockets and they'll keep this thing going as long as they want to.

Chicago's numbers continue to be amazing!  I find it interesting that Chicago had a higher weekly gross than Wicked or Lion King.  What?

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Does anyone know when the current cast members contracts are up on Death Becomes Her? I adore those actors (Simard is one of my all time favorites) but I concur with others that I'm not sure what other move they have to turn the numbers back around other than an entirely new cast (with the requisite PR tour and marketing campaign to reinvigorate ticket buyers). The numbers will undoubtedly come up again as we enter the heart of the spring when tourists return in greater numbers and look for an easy, fun show. But overall the numbers are trending downward.

I said it before, but I think a pairing of Laura Benanti and Jane Krakowski would be great. Two talented musical comediennes who can handle the rigors of the physical comedy and the score. Their TV work has gotten them much more fame than other Broadway names in the mix. And while they both have continued to do theater, it's been a decade since Krakowski did a Broadway musical, and 7 years for Benanti. They'd have to actually want to commit to a long run, and to being a replacement, but these are the types they should be trying to sign on. And then there's tons of options for Viola. Monet X Change said he wanted to tackle the role, and why the hell not! She'd probably sell tickets. Jade Thirwall could probably sing the hell out of the role. She's too young, but again, would sell plenty of tickets.

I hope SIX chooses to move the show to a commercial off-broadway venture. The current cast is sort of as good as they're going to get in terms of moving tickets (the return of a couple original cast members, a singer with a healthy social media following, and a major PR story with Mulvaney). But they still aren't moving the high priced Broadway tickets they need to. Maybe they could make it through this holiday season on Broadway. But they could get another 5 years out of the show Off-Broadway.

They'd sell tickets but I think the score is too screlty for either of them.

And what difference would that make without a major celebrity?

Yes, in this day and age, shows themselves don't move tickets nearly as much as the biggest celebs. Since WICKED and LION KING aren't stunt casting in any way...

I mean, Viola and, to a certain extent, Ernest, are prime roles for casting stars.

It feels a bit like what happened for the recent Sweeney - they had great sales out of the gate and, once it came to recasting, they got the people that clearly weren’t the first choice, leading to a commercial and critical downturn.

It’s also not like CABARET where they could get creative with the leads (and even that momentum eventually petered out). You need two comedically spry and high belting ladies willing to put it all out at least 5-6 shows per week.

Jane is an inspired choice, but eight shows of OH MARY a week is different than eight of DBH. Same with Sherie Rene Scott. She could be great as either, but she’s not up to doing eight shows a week these days. Save for Lesli Margherita, most of the comedic beltresses that come to mind are otherwise booked (Shoshana Bean, Jessica Vosk, Ana Gasteyer) are booked. I’m sure someone like Kristin Chenoweth (who did some development workshops) could jump in, but after the backlash during QOV, I’m sure it would look like she’s going in with her tail between her legs.

Leslie Kritzer would be a great fit, as well, but she's not somebody you would cast to expect to be a big draw.,

You’ll be hard pressed to get two replacements who are big enough names to keep this insanely expensive show afloat on their names alone. I’ve always thought they’ll have a much better shot at Williams’ replacement being the star casting they’d need.

I feel like Sweeney Todd continued to do good business with Tveit, Foster, and Locke - less than with Groban, but still solidly in the black every week. Although that doesn't negate your characterization of it as a commercial downturn, I think it has to count as a successful recasting.

And all because of some reality 'star.'  Just amazing.

Of course, DBH is not exactly ST.  Sutton Foster and Aaron Tveit proved to be pretty good box office attractions also, i.e., people wanted to see them in a musical masterpiece,  as opposed to a show with a totally forgettable score.

They also did 9 performances this week.
