I know All My Sons is in a subscriber house and all, but yikes.

Tootsie rising week-to-week as Beetlejuice falls when they started at similar numbers seems like a hit and a flop emerging to me...

Good to see Waitress do better now that Jeremy Jordan joined the cast.

I'm still amazed by Lion King. Average ticket paid is $166 and 96% gross potential after all these years.

Hadestown numbers will only get higher especially if it gets rave reviews after its opening in two days.

Ouch for Ferryman's 54% gross potential but I still think it will make it through the Tonys despite the cast change.

I predict MFL will close in July when Benanti leaves.

I too am really surprised that GARY isn't doing better. Nathan Lane's track record is pretty amazing, he is about a bankable as anyone who regularly appears on the Broadway stage.

Re Burn This, I have to admit to being pretty surprised at its first week's business. This seems more in line with what I would have expected. That said, I am surprised that Driver and Russell are selling tickets in numbers that they are; I was clearly wrong. Have to admit that I am just not a fan of Driver, and I assumed that Russell would follow the path of other talented film and TV actresses who have bombed in NYC because they could not compensate for the lack of close-ups, couldn't project enough, etc.

Re Ink and All My Sons, I generally have the opinion that productions at MTC and Roundabout generally start slowly, and build if they get very good to excellent reviews. I have always wondered whether they are viewed by younger theatre goers as stodgy (because they are subscription theatre. Also, because they sell a lot of subscriptions, the subscriber tickets are well discounted even when a show is more in demand.

Labor Day for Be More Chill unless, as some people here are expecting, they have a great summer and /or have producers who are prepared to lose money for a long time for whatever reason.

Really disappointed with The Ferryman's grosses. Unless there is a miracle, I imagine it will lose a huge portion of its investment, because it was so expensive to open (for a non-musical) and must have a staggering weekly nut for a play, between cast size and all the kids involved.

Amazed with What the Constitution...and happily so. I have not seen it and am not sure when I will (all May slots accounted for, with two of those potentially badly chosen (Lear and Gary, which I specifically purchased because of Glenda Jackson and Nathan Lane, despite learning decades ago that actors that I really want to see appear often appear in stinkers.)

I guess Laurie Matcalf is never going to be a box office attraction. Despite winning Tony's the past two seasons, she and John Lithgow are in a play whose average ticket price is $62.77.

Beetlejuice had the one-day sale of $33 tickets for the length of previews. Do we know how many sold?

An important distinction: Nathan's last 3 Broadway shows all had famous costars (Andrew Garfield in Angels, and incredibly starry ensembles in The Front Page and It's Only A Play). He's the only name selling tickets in Gary.

And, when NY theatregoers are choosing between plays, there are a LOT of other stars on Broadway this season. In the past 6 years, Lane has done 4 Broadway shows + Iceman Cometh at BAM. The Titus Andronicus subtitle could also be scaring people off.

Bit of a boost for Waitress with Jeremy in the show, but more because of a 10% rise in attendance rather than an increase in ticket prices, which I guess makes sense considering he’s probably gonna attract a lot of younger fans who aren’t gonna pay the big bucks.

I agree. I'm a big Cher fan and if I'm on a limited budget and have to choose whether to see the Cher Show with an actress acting as Cher (love SJB) or see Cher herself perform at her concert near where I live, I'd pick the latter.

i am always surprised at the surprise when big stars in bad or unmarketable shows dont sell well. Sure, there are megastars that will draw audiences to watch them read a phone book, but as popular as Lane is, without something more (an interesting plot, a great ad campaign, great word of mouth) how many people are going to automatically plunk down $ just to see him no matter what? Especially when, as pointed out above, he is on Broadway very regularly.

i love the guy. Gary wasn't horrible, and he is great in it. but i had no idea what it was about going in, and i havent seen a single ad or puff piece explaining what it was about since. and i find it hard to believe many ppl whove seen it are running to their offices/families/friends telling everyone what a fantastic night it was. these grosses make perfect sense to me.

That's a REALLY good point. Most other jukebox musicals have been about subjects who are either dead, not performing regularly, or a disbanded musical group.

If memory serves correct, Angels in America (which is one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen) didn’t have great box office initially although it perked up part way into its run. It also never announced recoupment. Of course, the long running time and two parts probably kept some people away.
