Ohh right, I forgot about SUNSET making an ILLINOISE extension impossible.

Demand would have to be incredibly high for ILL to move to a new theatre. ATG/Jujamcyn would probably get first dibs since that's where it is now.

Or just tour it.

I feel bad for HoRR. It’s one of the few wholesome feel good musical comedies on Broadway.

It did increase its grosses by $100k which is great.

We actually got a lot of mediocre shows this season. So yes, maybe the season did need another show. A good one.

A Beautiful Noise should end their final 8 weeks strong.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I was unsure as to whether Sutton Foster and Aaron Tveit would sell many tickets to ST. I am happy to see how well it has done. It probably could have run through the summer and continued the impressive grosses had they decided to extend early on.

I continue to be really surprised that SUFFS has not caught on yet. I figured the solid (if not spectacular) reviews, coupled with the subject matter, would have resulted in much more comfortable grosses.

I think it's Suff's subject matter that is giving potential ticket buyers some pause. Between the other IP choices (some bad ones) vs a history lesson (albeit an important one), most may go for the former.

Anyone have intel on why Sweeney didn't try to keep stunt casting and instead close after Tveit/Foster? Or did they try and couldn't get anyone? It is still crushing it. Feels like it could definitely have run longer.

Jeffrey Seller offered the show to many bigger stars prior to settling on Tveit & Foster and to my knowledge also tried to line up bigger replacements for after Tveit/Foster's run.

Stars who mean a lot at the box office usually do not want to replace, don't want to be compared to those who came before them, and don't want to be blamed for poor box office.

Quit while you're ahead before you start losing money every week.

I agree. Quit while you're ahead and start loosing money. Everything that Ermengarde said. Just because it's doing well doesn't mean they should keep throwing money at it. It's the circle of Broadway- things close, things open. And Sweeney is going on tour.

No Sondheim show has ever run for 1,000 performances on Broadway, though A Funny Thing Happened on the Way came close with 964 performances. Compared to other giants of the theater, his shows don't seem to lend themselves to replacement casts and indefinite runs as much.

Same for Sweeney. I feel like everyone who has wanted to see it has, for either the OBRC or Aaron and Sutton, and according to other posts, they did offer it to other people, so at this point it's smart to go out on a high note.

All I am saying is that, had the two leads extended, it would likely have done the great business it has been doing for another 4 months. Close is then (and that way, I would have been able to see it. Oh, well.

As far as I know nothing has been mentioned, and I think it would have been by now. Sweeney announced months ago that they would be, so if Merrily had plans, I feel like they would have mentioned it by now. Some shows just like...leave them be! They're special when they have certain runs and do not need to be prolonged and brought all over the country. Why can't things just be special Broadway runs?

Except I don't. Why is it so difficult to be kind? I didn't say anything rude to you. I've tried really hard to be polite, but people make comments directed at me and sometimes, they're hard to ignore. So please, stop.

Do you forsee Merrily having the same success on the road that it has been experiencing on Broadway? Because I don't. Especially not without the golden trio leading the Broadway production.

Do you think producers want to take a risk on "okay"? This is a great way for perhaps school groups to now know more about the show and seek to do performances. It opens their eyes to this show. I don't see why it is necessary for me to agree that every single thing on Broadway should also tour. And just because I don't think it's necessary doesn't mean I'm somehow gatekeeping those shows or something.
