Despite all the nominations paradise square was only up 41,000? Do they even make it to the tony awards?

Ouch, Hangmen really struggling to fill seats. Any chance this closes before its scheduled June 18th date?

Nah - it’ll just probably play out it’s run (it’s got 4 weeks left) and try to pick up whatever it can from it’s Tony nominations.

Nice to see 10 Tony nominations seem to have done jack-diddly-squat for PARADISE SQUARE. I’ll still harp on the fact that people don’t even know this show exists and that’s a MAJOR fail for a show with that amount of awards heft I’m under its belt.

Can somebody say “nominations boost”?!

Always one of the most exciting weeks of the year to analyze: the first full week following the Tony noms announcement.

Looks like the biggest boosts go to Mr. Saturday Night, Company, A Strange Loop, Take Me Out – all of which got a 6-figure increase.

Makes a lot of sense when you think about it which shows got the biggest boosts.

And for these particular shows, this kind of change could very well make the difference between operating at a loss vs. working toward recoupment, albeit at a slow-ish pace. Obviously Take Me Out is exempt from that as a non-profit, but I’m sure they’re hapy to have the extra income nonetheless.

don't think so, it's already on limited engagement.  It was pretty full on saturday matinee.

Seems like negative reviews and no Tony nominations didn't affect Funny Girl.

Agreed, FG looks like a certifiable hit. Any word can be inserted in front of “proof,” and applies.

POTUS's positive word of mouth seems to be working as it is slowly turning into a sleeper hit. I wonder if they are finally starting to make money or if they are just below their nut for the week.

Some of the increase in Take Me Out's gross can be attributed to them raising the price and making almost all of the center orchestra Premium pricing. It's interesting that after all the publicity it was still only at 90% capacity. Cancellations due to Ferguson being out the first two shows might have contributed somewhat, though it's unlikely the full 10% of open seats can be attributed to that.

Those are NICE boosts for Mr. Saturday Night and A Strange Loop. Will be interesting to see how long the post-Tony boosts last. Poor Skin of Our Teeth.

One other thing to note: Tony voters (and other industry folk) are comin' to town, which could account for the drops/tiny increases for hits like Music Man, MJ, Plaza Suite, etc. because it means giving away what would otherwise be premium seats.

I honestly don’t think we will see any effect from the lack of Tony nominations for quite a while since the show was heavily sold even before the run began.

I can imagine this is probably going to start petering out in the fall (around when Jane Lynch leaves in September) and then, barring some little bumps around the holidays, shutter in January.

I'm assuming they need to crack at least $500K to hit their breakeven each week, and then will need to make up for all the lost money in previews and then work towards recouping. So sleeper hit is probably still very much an overstatement –– this thing is dangling by a thread.

[one Google search later]

Of course we never know the exact reasons behind a sales increase, but in the case of those 4 shows with the biggest boosts, do you disagree that they can reasonably be attributed to the Tony nominations? Obviously there’s some key intersecting of variables at play: not every show that did well at nominations got an increase; the ones that got boosts were the ones that already had strong prospects, but were most likely amplified by the publicity from their nominations. Obviously we can’t know for certain, but as is always the case with the grosses threads, we can make educated guesses based on strong circumstantial evidence.

Time will tell with Funny Girl. It started its run pretty well sold, so we’ll really see the effects of the poor reviews and awards shutout as we get further into the run.

Is this the first time Dear Evan Hansen’s avg ticket price was lower than Come From Away? Says to me they released some cheap seats to get their gross boosted a little.

That anyone is allowing Paradise Square to burn through whoever’s money they’ve swindled is beyond insane. I’m glad the company is employed, but what is actually going on?

Hoping this spells the upswing for Company and it sustains following an expected good showing on Tony Sunday. The production really deserves a shot at having an killer replacement cast on top of the brilliance that’s already on that stage. Curious how their business model will play out as they approach the fall and contracts approach expiration they’ll need to announce replacements pretty soon after the Tonys if they hope to sell September/October on that. Assuming that’s when the original cast’s deals are up since they had like a 2 month rehearsal period before relaunching.

Patti hasn't done a Bway run longer than 10 months since ANYTHING GOES. Being that this began previews in mid-November, I've always assumed she's gone by Labor Day at the absolute latest. If the producers are smart, they might be able to attract suitable replacements for Lenk & LuPone who either (a) mean more than them at the box office, or (b) at minimum get the diehards to return ala Bernadette & Elaine in NIGHT MUSIC –– but that's easier said than done.

No, not at all. Some of the posts seem to have less awareness of intersecting variables than you (and I) do. Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 5/15/22

There are already 3 LuPone replacements lined up -- each with box office clout -- for short engagements (should the show still be running).

I think it's equally likely that Company got attention for Patti yelling at the woman who wasn't wearing her mask properly and Take Me Out got attention from the video taken during the show and the conversation around that. Similarly, I don't know if it was Tony nominations or the twitter campaign that brought attention to for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf.

I don't know if people don't want to see the lower grossing shows or they aren't aware of them. Mainstream attention (outside of regular theatergoers) can only help.

Oh that's exciting! I mean, it's a great role for a woman of a certain age. Not much stage time, but you get a kick ass song.
