The page is still showing last week for me, but ouch if that 30% drop for Into the Woods is accurate. Did they really think it wasn’t that cast (particularly Sara) making it a hit?

ITW still pulling in 1,000,000+ is still a very successful week. Plus, I imagine the weekly nut is a bit lower with the new cast.

As I said last week, this week’s Into the Woods number is telling, but it’s also not necessarily a dealbreaker. If my theory is correct that the production has already recouped , then, as I said before, everything from now on is icing on the cake.
when they announced their “final extension” a few days ago, I wonder if it was because their advance was still solid enough to keep going through the end of the year, but not strong enough to keep extending indefinitely with a revolving door of Broadway stars.

For only 4 performances with Lea, those numbers are absolutely insane. That’s a jump of nearly $1 million.

There’s also more elegance in keeping ITW to 6 months and closing in Jan, as opposed to the Funny Girl and Follies situations which ran out of steam after a few months. We know there is a finite audience for musical revivals and the numbers will continue to drop if they continue casting just Broadway folks. But as long as they’re above like 650 they should be A-OK.

That Hadestown number....could the show be in trouble? That worries me a bit.

Bringing in close to a 1m is pretty stellar.

This was also the first full week of Broadway Week 2 for 1s, so don’t forget to take that into account.
I am shocked at the drop by ITW, but pulling in over $1 mil at only 2/3 capacity (the lowest of all shows this week btw) is actually quite impressive.
Also, yay for A STRANGE LOOP getting a little bump in grosses. I thought B’way week would’ve knocked their grosses down even more.

Well, Lea just made Sonia Friedman's day. Nice to see so many people stayed to see Julie, but I imagine if Lea had done all scheduled performances the umber would be even more astounding.
I worry for A Strange Loop.. Nice for Into the Woods to still be making over a million. Running costs can't be high and they've lost their more expensive stars?

It will be at $700K in a month.
I am thinking that Lea Michelle must be in 7th heaven. And she only played 3 performances!!!
Hamilton, still doing very good business, never recovered from Covid…wonder if constant availability on Disney+ hurt.
interesting that Chicago and MR both went up while the shows went down…is this the scenario someone posted a couple of weeks ago about MR likely going up after Labor Day? MR also never really recovered from Covid either.

Holy cow, Funny Girl.
That's a rough drop for Into the Woods but I'm not shocked. I think Sara was a bigger draw than some gave her credit for. It's still pulling a good number but a January end seems much more reasonable now.

Has Moulin Rouge! Recouped? Does anyone know what percentage to-date is recouped? And what are the weekly running costs all-in, including theater rent and min royalties?

Sara was a huge draw whenever she was in Waitress so she definitely drove those ITW numbers! I think the big drop is also because I think the new replacements are a bit underwhelming. Maybe not to hardcore theater stans, but Stephanie J Block and Krysta etc are not big enough names to put bums on seats based on their name alone.
Also WOW at Funny Girl and also the DEH numbers since Gaten came in - I think the show has been 100% capacity ever since he started his run.
Also MJ Musical still just quietly going about it’s business with full capacity shows despite getting no credit for it or publicity! Good for the show!!

MJ doesn't need credit or publicity on here, it gets enough of that everywhere else :)

I have no inside knowledge (if anyone does, I’d love to hear), but based on the math alone, I’d guess that they’ve recouped.
Their capitalization was $28MM, and they’ve currently grossed $135.5MM over 88 weeks. I’m totally unaware of what their running cost/royalty situation is – it must be pretty darn high, especially if they’re paying royalites on all those pop songs. Still, I’m guessing they’re not paying more than $1MM/week combined for all their salaries, expenses, and royalties. Let’s say $1.1MM to be on the ultra-conservative side. Even if the number is that high, they would’ve still netted over $38MM. In which case, they’ve recouped and made a profit. And with a $10MM margin for error, I think it’s pretty likely that they’ve at least recouped.
Happy to be corrected on any of this by industry-savvy people.
